Rumors have been circulating for some time now about an Apple iPad mini ($569 on Amazon) with an OLED display. Bloomberg has now uncovered further details about Apple’s iPad plans. According to the report, the next-generation Apple iPad mini, codenamed J510, will hit the market as early as fall 2026. It is not yet known whether the mini tablet will receive any upgrades beyond the processor and display.
While an OLED panel should offer deeper blacks, higher HDR peak brightness, and a faster response time than the IPS panel on the current iPad mini, Apple is reportedly using an old-school 60 Hz LTPS OLED panel. ProMotion remains reserved for Apple’s more expensive tablets. The screen size is expected to increase slightly from 8.3 inches to 8.4 inches. The tablet is expected to feature the Apple A19 Pro, which is already familiar from the iPhone 17 Pro (Max).
According to Bloomberg, three more iPad models will follow in the spring of 2027. The base iPad model is expected to receive a processor upgrade in the first quarter, that is, between January and March, though the design is reportedly unchanged. Since last year’s iPad was equipped with the Apple A16 Bionic, an upgrade to the Apple A18 or Apple A19 is conceivable. According to Bloomberg, the iPad Air and iPad Pro will also get successors in spring 2027, and Apple is expected to focus on a processor upgrade for these models as well. An iPad Air with an OLED display is reportedly in the works, but it won’t hit the market until a later date. Meanwhile, an Apple Pencil with a replaceable battery is reportedly in the works.
