Apple blows up the price-performance scale with the iPhone SE 2022
Hardly any smartphone is as fast as this: You can already get the iPhone SE 2022 for slightly more than 500 Euros (~$545), even though it still comes with the Apple A15 Bionic. This is the SoC that is also used in the current top iPhones. Even the high-end phones from Samsung or Xiaomi cannot keep up in terms of performance.
In addition, the iPhone SE 2022 also has another, almost unique purchase argument: it is very, very compact. With a barely 4.7-inch display diagonal, it belongs to the smallest smartphones that we tested in the previous two years. The IPS screen doesn't use PWM and can optionally also become very bright. It also reproduces colors fairly accurately.
On the other hand, the design still comes from the iPhone 8 from 2017, looking quite aged with its thick bezels above and below the screen. The iPhone SE 2022 continues to be the only smartphone officially available from Apple that includes TouchID and a physical Home button.
The single-lens camera might also be turning away some customers. While it takes fairly good pictures and is able to use many of the features that you otherwise only get in the really expensive iPhones, at the same time, you have to make do without an ultra-wide angle camera, so you are much less flexible in terms of photography.
In addition, those who prefer manual camera modes won't be pleased with Apple's software. But fortunately you can find numerous apps for this in the App Store.
