Apple announces September 15 event as Apple Watch Series 6 and new iPad Air launch proves a no-show; iPhone 12 series due in October
Today was supposed to be the day that Apple unveiled the Watch Series 6 and new iPad Air, according to Jon Prosser. Apparently, his sources were not to "budging or changing their mind" on that, with Prosser insisting that Apple would announce both devices in a press release. Prosser even gave a time for when the press release would be published, but "9:00am EST" came and went with no announcement.
Apple did announce on thing today though, but it seems that Prosser has been fed false information again. Instead of announcing any products the company merely updated its Apple Events page with a banner for an event on September 15. The next Apple Event commences at 10:00 PDT (UTC-07:00). Typically, Apple announces a new generation of iPhones at these September events, but Mark Gurman suspects that this is not the case. Gurman correctly predicted that today's announcement would be for the September 15 event, but now thinks that Apple will use this to announce the Watch Series 6 and a new iPad Air.
The official invite, which we have included below, implies that Apple will be announcing something watch-related, at any rate. According to Gurman, Apple will not launch the iPhone 12 series until October. This would be even later than past rumours suggested, although it may mean that Apple has the devices ready to go almost immediately. Either way, an October iPhone announcement would be a first for Apple since the iPhone 4s in 2013.
