Apple Watch Series 7 announced with larger display, new workout modes, riding fall detection, and faster charging starting from US$399
Apple has announced the new Watch Series 7 during its September 2021 keynote. The Apple Watch Series 7 now comes with thinner bezels, a larger display, new watch faces, and more.
Under the hood, the Watch Series 7 is quite similar to the previous Series 6 in aspects such as battery life, processor, and sensors. The primary changes are with respect to the casing and of course, watchOS 8. The Watch Series 7 comes in 41 mm and 45 mm sizes
Apple said that the Watch Series 7 is its most durable yet with an IP6X certification, WR50 water resistance, and a more crack-resistant front crystal. While the battery life is rated at the same 18 hours as the Series 6, Apple now claims that just eight minutes of charging the new Watch Series 7 can give up to eight hours of battery life, and 45 minutes of charging can take the battery from 0 to 80% via the USB-C magnetic fast charger.
The Watch Series 7 also comes with new watch faces, Contour and Modular Duo, that take advantage of the increased screen real estate. watchOS 8 now offers new workout types, a Mindfulness app, and improvements to Messages and Photos. You also get a full QWERTY keyboard that can be used by typing or gliding in addition to two large font sizes.
Other features coming to watchOS including improved fall detection even during riding and a new riding mode that auto pauses and resumes according to the ride while also providing detailed metrics that more accurately reflect pauses such as waiting at a traffic signal.
Apple said that the Watch Series 7 will be available in five aluminum case colors including midnight, starlight, green, a new blue shade, and (PRODUCT)RED. Series 7 is also backwards compatible with bands designed for previous generation watches. We also get to see new bands and watch faces for the Apple Watch Nike and Apple Watch Hermès editions.
The Apple Watch Series 7 will be available later this fall at prices starting from US$399. The Apple Watch Series 3 will also continue to be made available at US$199 while the Watch SE starts from US$279.
