Apple M5 Ultra flexes monstrous GPU performance in leaked Geekbench result

Apple's M5 Ultra has returned to Geekbench, this time showing off its GPU prowess. The benchmark comes from a Mac Studio equipped with the M5 Ultra and 256 GB of unified memory. The chip has a 36-core CPU made up of 12 high-performance cores and 24 additional cores, while the tested configuration is paired with Apple's top-end 40-core GPU.

In Geekbench 7’s Metal benchmark, the system scored 360,019 points. For comparison, a recent M3 Ultra Mac Studio submission with 512 GB of unified memory scored 255,009 points in the same benchmark. That gives the M5 Ultra roughly a 41% uplift over the M3 Ultra in this test. Given Metal is an Apple-centred benchmark, the stated listing cannot be used to determine how the M5 Ultra's GPU fares against mainstream offerings from Nvidia/AMD. For that, we will have to wait for more platform-agnostic tests like OpenCL and Vulkan. 

As always, this is still a single benchmark submission, so some variation is inevitable depending on thermals, software state and benchmark run-to-run behaviour. Nevertheless, a 360,019-point result represents a sizeable jump over the M3 Ultra's 255,009 score. Combined with the M5 Ultra's earlier Geekbench CPU appearance, the latest submission suggests Apple's new flagship silicon could deliver substantial gains on the GPU and CPU sides of the chip.
