Anker has issued a recall for two Bluetooth speakers with lithium-ion batteries that are a fire hazard. About 80,000 units of the Soundcore and PowerConf Speakerphone Bluetooth speakers, which were sold on Amazon in the US and Canada in 2023, have to be returned for a replacement.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has compelled Anker Innovations to issue a recall for two Anker Bluetooth speakers sold exclusively on Amazon in 2023.

The affected speakers are said to be a fire hazard following multiple reports of the lithium-ion batteries overheating. In some cases, the speakers emitted smoke and small fires while one case resulted in a minor burn injury.

The affected speaker models are the Anker Soundcore Bluetooth speaker with model number A3102 and the Anker PowerConf Bluetooth Speakerphone with model number A3302. It also states that only the lithium-ion batteries inside the Bluetooth speakers with model numbers A3102016, A3302011, and A3302031 are included in the recall. Anker has said that affected users will get a free replacement.

According to the CPSC website, over 69,000 units of both speakers were sold in the US while 9,764 were sold in Canada. Anker and Amazon have reportedly contacted all known buyers, but the CPSC says owners of the two speaker models can check if their units are included in the recall by typing the SN code (written underneath the speaker) of the speaker on Anker's product recall page.

However, as at the time of writing, there was no mention of the recall on the page, so owners can't verify if their speakers are affected. Nevertheless, if you own a speaker with the same model numbers listed above, it is advised that you power them off and stop using them immediately. Also unplug them if they are plugged into a charger.
