Sanwa Supply has released a multifunction boombox for the cassette tape enthusiast that combines retro and modern audio features along with analog control dials and buttons.
A key retro feature is the cassette tape player capable of playing tapes with a playback frequency range of 60 Hz to 10 kHz and recording range of 100 Hz to 10 kHz. Users can listen to the tapes on the three-watt stereo speakers or on headphones plugged into the 3.5 mm stereo jack.
After inserting a SD card or USB flash drive into the machine, users can convert cassette tapes to 128 kbps 48 kHz mono MP3 audio files. Owners can put their own MP3 files on flash memory devices or connect wirelessly over Bluetooth 5.3 from any smartphone or audio source for playback on the boombox. The boombox has an MP3 playback frequency range of 100 Hz to 10 kHz and recording range of 125 Hz to 10 kHz.
Another retro feature is the AM/FM radio tuner capable of tuning AM stations between 530 and 1,600 kHz and FM stations between 76 and 108 MHz. An extendable FM radio antenna along with an internal AM rod antenna help ensure clear reception.
The player can be powered with AC power cord or four C-sized batteries for approximately 50 hours in all modes. The boombox measures 34 x 12 x 8.25 cm (13.4 x 4.7 x 3.2 in.) and weighs 1.5 kg (3.3 lbs.).
The Sanwa Supply multifunction boombox has an MSRP of 13,800 yen (~$90) and is available in black (400-MEDI050BK) and red (400-MEDI050R) from Sanwa Supply. Readers wanting a much smaller player can pick up the FiiO CP13 portable cassette player from Amazon.
