Anbernic has just announced that it has suspended shipments of its retro gaming handhelds to the US in response to ongoing tariffs. Nonetheless, the company still has the RG557 in the pipeline, which it has been teasing for the last few weeks. To recap, Anbernic recently outlined all key specifications for its RG556 successor (curr. $229.99 on Amazon), full details of which we have covered separately.
Now, it has confirmed not only the release date of the RG557 but also its launch pricing. Unfortunately, Anbernic will charge a fair bit more for the device than expected. While there were suggestions that the RG557 could come in at $205 for a $30 increase over the RG556, an early Amazon listing put the device at an exorbitant $359.99. However, Anbernic has revealed that the RG557 will start at $235 before eventually rising to $249 before shipping.
The Anbernic RG557 will be available to order from April 25. The company has clarified that its early bird pricing will last until April 28. Please see the videos below for early impressions of Anbernic's first gaming handheld release this year. Incidentally, the company recently shared its 2025 release plans too, which could well include the RG34XX SP and up to nine other gaming handhelds.
