Rumours about Anbernic and KT Pocket releasing similar gaming handhelds have been bubbling under for a while. While details about the KT-R1S emerged first, it seems that the RG477M will come to market sooner. For the time being, neither has received an official release date yet.
With that being said, Anbernic is expected to release the RG477M before the end of the month. By contrast, KT Pocket has not offered any indication as to when the KT-R1S will be available. Nonetheless, Anbernic is now said to have designed the RG477M to make the KT-R1S seem like an unappealing option.
To that end, the RG477M is anticipated to arrive with a much faster chipset than the KT-R1S while hitting a lower price point and matching its rival with a metal shell. Specifically, it has been suggested that the pair will feature MediaTek's Dimensity 8300 and Dimensity 7300 chipsets, respectively. According to our benchmarks, the Dimensity 8300 inside the RG477M enjoys 84% CPU and 216% GPU performance advantages over the Dimensity 7300.
Moreover, leaked pricing indicates that the RG477M could launch for around CNY 1,688 (~$235) with 12 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. By contrast, the KT-R1S is rumoured to be arriving for CNY 1,799, which converts to roughly $250 at current exchange rates. With all these rumours floating around about both devices, Anbernic has decided to publish a detailed gameplay showcase video that we embedded below.
Unsurprisingly, the RG477M appears to perform about as well as the existing RG557 (curr. $379 on Amazon), although the former could outperform the latter in some more challenging games thanks to its lower internal display resolution. The start of the video also teases a dual display. Visible for only 20 seconds, the accessory looks like a simplified version of the Dual Screen Add-On that Retroid released last month. At this stage, it is unclear whether Anbernic plans to release its alternative or if it was only included in the video below for demonstration purposes.
