Currently, Meta only sells two virtual reality (VR) headsets, the Quest 3 and Quest 3S (curr. $299 on Amazon), having discontinued the Quest 2 and Quest Pro in September. According to Mark Gurman, the company continues to develop another two pairs of VR headsets, but not necessarily as direct Quest 3 or Quest 3S successors.
Instead, Gurman suggests that Meta could be returning to its pre-Quest 3S VR market segmentation with standard and 'Pro' models. Specifically, the long-term Apple analyst believes that Meta will release not just the Quest 4 but also a new high-end option that will effectively succeed the maligned Quest Pro.
While Meta eventually released the headset codenamed 'Ventura' as the Quest 3S, it was said to have cancelled the equivalent Quest Pro 2 prototype that was being developed as 'La Jolla'. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether the La Jolla project has been restarted or permanently ditched in favour of a new prototype altogether.
Likewise, there is no indication when the Quest 4 or Quest Pro 2 will officially arrive, nor for how much. In the meantime, there have been suggestions that Meta may deliver its latest crack at 'Smart Glasses' later this year.
