Reviews for the Alienware 13
Small chassis, big performance? After products with 11 and 14-inches, the gaming experts from Alienware now offer a 13-inch product. Our article tries to focus on the question of whether a dual-core is sufficient for the GeForce GTX 860M and the external amplifier.

The Alienware 13 is a compact yet very powerful laptop, suited to playing all modern Windows games. It’s chunky thick but relatively light in weight, and has been well designed and equipped to be a premium yet still portable powerhouse.

The Alienware 13 is a beautifully designed and rugged feeling gaming laptop that you can take with you anywhere. As is often the case with Alienware, the price is just a little too steep considering the specifications. However, at this size we would be tempted to pick the 13 over any similarly sized rivals simply because it feels so well made. You also get Dell's excellent collect and return warranty that includes in-home support should the firm decide it's required. If you don't have as much money to spend, though, the Chillblast Defiant 2 Mini remains our favourite compact gaming laptop.

Given the quality of the Alienware 13 laptop (15 and 17-inch models have also just been announced), being the only device that can use the Graphics Amplifier is a minor niggle and it can be expected that other Alienware laptops will support the connection. At less than $2000 for the whole kit (laptop, high-end graphics card and graphics amplifier), a rig that can be both a gaming laptop and an upgradable gaming desktop is a great price and well worth the investment.

The Alienware 13 is good performer but it loses out to couple of sub-100k laptops, like the Lenovo Y50 and ASUS X550JK. The laptop will perform better with an external GPU, which can be used via the Alienware Graphics Amplifier, which again requires you to shell out more money.

Buy this laptop if you're looking for a portable, neatly designed model that can be used effectively for gaming. At the same time, you can consider it as a main overall gaming system due to its ability to take advantage of desktop-class graphics processing via the optional Graphics Amplifier.

Alienware and Dell have created their best portable laptop to date, which manages to squeeze in plenty of power into a relatively small frame. It's chunkier than many other laptops on the market, but it's practically future proof too for all your gaming needs if you invest in the Graphics Amplifier. If you're looking for a one-stop PC to take on the go and then crank the settings up in your favourite games when you get home, it's well worth checking out.

If you're in the market for a gaming laptop then it tends to be a shout between Alienware and Razer. With UK availability and a starting price of £949 with the Intel Core i5 chipset, the Alienware 13 certainly makes its mark. Just make sure you budget for the additional Graphics Amplifier and associated card as it'll add up quickly - but you can configure your ideal system right now and, if the price is right, it'll be whizzing its way to you before the Christmas period.

While other slim gaming notebooks are aimed at giving players a little bit of power and portability, Alienware promises the best of both worlds. By itself, the $1,699 Alienware 13 delivers solid gaming performance with long battery life and a captivating ultra-high-resolution display. Admittedly, I would have preferred the more powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX 870M card, but the 13's G860M GPU gets the job done.

Alienware is highly regarded as being among the best producers of gaming devices in this day and age. Their latest portable gaming notebook series, the Alienware 13, got its name because of its 13 inch display. With this device, portability is the buzzword as it has been designed to be as slim as possible, measuring about 2.54 cm in thickness and weighing slightly over 2 kg. The 13 inch display comes in two variants, the normal 1366 x 768 resolution screen without touch support and a touch sensitive 2560 x 1440 model.
The hardware includes an Intel i5-4210U 1.7 GHz dual core processor and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M GPU to adequately meet the demands of most games out there. Neatly packed into the body are Alienware's own Klipsch speakers, which provides enough bass to complete that awesome gaming experience.
The body of this device is done in a futuristic design with sharply angled edges below the display and above the keyboard, as well as deep slanted grooves on the cover, fitted with two LED lights leading to a backlit alien head logo. Also available is a graphic amplifier developed by Nvidia in conjunction with Alienware, which can override the 860M GPU and provides the more powerful Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 GPU, which can boost gaming to unimaginable speeds and heights.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M: Upper mid-range graphics card from the GeForce GTX 800M series.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

Alienware has been part of the Dell Group since 2006. The product range mainly focuses on gaming laptops and desktops, which are developed and manufactured by Dell. The trademark is a slightly futuristic design with an Alien as the logo. Additionally, workstations for private and business customers are sold.
As with every brand, there are also some points of criticism with Alienware. Some customers have complained about the high prices of the products, while others have criticized the quality of customer services. There have also been some reports of problems with the reliability and durability of some Alienware products. However, many customers have also had positive experiences with the brand and appreciate the powerful gaming computers.
77.4%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
