Deal | Affordable Lenovo tablet with 120 Hz, 800-nit display and JBL speakers gets 31% discount

Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, the newly launched Lenovo Tab Plus 2 brings a healthy set of features and an affordable price tag for budget-conscious tablet buyers - especially those who care a lot about audio performance.

Since the Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 tablet was launched very recently, we have not yet had the opportunity to review it. We did review its predecessor, which featured a MediaTek Helio G99 SoC and an 11.5-inch 2K 90Hz display, and found it to be a compelling product.

The Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2, on the other hand, is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7400 SoC, paired with 8 GB of RAM. While far from a flagship performer, the entry-level octa-core SoC should be sufficient for most daily tasks and casual usage.

The display has witnessed a notable improvement, both in terms of size and quality. Now spanning 12.1 inches, the IPS panel sports a resolution of 2560 x 1600. The screen now refreshes at 120 Hz, which is great for doom scrolling as well as occasional gaming.

The Tab Plus Gen 2 tablet also features 128 GB of UFS 3.1 storage. Should that fail to suffice, users can go the expansion route with the tablet's microSD slot (up to 2 TB) - a rare sight in modern times. At over 770 grams, the Tab Plus Gen 2 tablet is quite heavy, which can be a major downside for many people.

However, the biggest improvement by far happens to be the tablet's new audio system, which features a massive JBL-branded speaker array on the rear. Consisting of four tweeters, three woofers, and two passive radiators, along with support for Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res audio, the Tab Plus Gen 2 is intended to also function as a portable Bluetooth speaker.

PCMag did get an opportunity to go hands-on with the tablet, and had almost nothing but good things to say about its audio performance. There appeared to be no major complaints with the tablet, although its weight is definitely on the higher side.

Other notable details of the Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 include a 13 MP rear camera, 8 MP front camera, 360° kick stand, 10,200-mAh battery with claimed 15-hour battery life, 45-watt fast charging support, USB Type-C 2.0 connectivity, and WiFi 6/Bluetooth 5.4 support.
