It's an incredible feeling to pick up a laptop with one hand without feeling a thing. The Swift Edge 14 AI is so thin and light it almost feels hollow when you hold it, and that's a credit to Acer's engineering. I still question whether plastic-feeling materials make sense for a laptop at this price point, but it's hard to argue with the results.

The Acer Swift Edge 14 AI combines the practical and desirable in a way that makes this one of the very best laptops for pure portability and travel use. Note, however, that newer-gen Intel chips – the Series 3, known as 'Panther Lake' – are incoming – so it could be worth waiting for a likely price drop. The Swift Edge 14 is ultra-light yet doesn’t feel flimsy. It has a new kind of anti-reflective screen that doesn’t dull the impact of the underlying OLED panel. It even has a keyboard and touchpad combo that feels made for real work, not just faffing about in cafes.

The Acer Swift Edge 14 AI doesn’t knock it out of the park at every turn, but if you’re looking for a lightweight, reasonably speedy machine that’s ready to run all day and look lovely doing it, the Acer Swift Edge 14 AI is a homerun. The display is a special highlight for combining excellent visual quality with a rarely used matte finish that may have a minor impact on brilliance but has a huge impact on how easy it is to see the display in more conditions.

The Acer Swift Edge 14 AI is a gorgeous ultrabook with ounces of style, a formidable port selection and solid power from its Lunar Lake processor. It also has a lovely high-res OLED screen and great battery life. You will have to pay a bit for the privilege, though. The Asus Zenbook A14 is its closest rival, and while it will last longer on a charge, its processor isn’t as powerful and its screen isn’t as detailed or comes with as high a refresh rate, plus it has half the RAM capacity. You are saving £200 for the Asus one, though. With this in mind, I think the Swift Edge 14 AI is the definitive choice for folks wanting a featherweight and potent ultrabook that doesn’t compromise much in any area of its game. The Swift Edge 14’s lightweight design and clever anti-reflective screen clearly mark it out as a machine optimised for use out and about in various environments and situations, and for that, it’s one of the very best on the market. The featherweight, but still solid and attractive, design is to be applauded and there’s not much arguing with the price when you are getting a 1TB SSD and 32GB of RAM as well. Sadly, the Swift Edge 14 has been slightly hamstrung with a subpar speaker system and webcam; for the money, both should be better than they are. If more attention had been paid to those two areas, I’d have unhesitatingly given it a Best Buy badge rather than a Recommended award.

The Swift Edge 14 AI isn't cheap, and if you're happy with a slower but still AI-ready Snapdragon X Plus processor and a lower-resolution OLED screen, the Zenbook A14 gives you a similar form factor on a lower budget. However, the Acer has the edge on screen resolution and quality and all-round performance, and gives you much the same experience as the high-end ThinkPad for less. Lenovo's lithe laptop has its rock-solid carbon fibre/aluminium build and some additional enterprise features to recommend it, but Acer's new model is a serious alternative, especially for smaller businesses. Maybe one day all business laptops will offer so much while weighing so little.

The Acer Swift Edge 14 AI is a great-looking, hyper-portable laptop that remarkably weighs in at under 1kg. That's less than the MacBook Air, making it the hybrid worker's dream. The lightweight design ethos might not have affected the impressive 3K OLED display, but the general hardware under the hood is a little limited, especially given the premium price.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel Arc 140V: A pretty fast integrated graphics adapter that higher-end Intel Lunar Lake family processors employ. This is a direct successor to the Arc 8; it can drive three SUHD 4320p monitors simultaneously via HDMI 2.1, eDP 1.5 and DP 2.1. With the 140V, all 2023 and 2024 games are playable at 1080p on low graphics settings.

It essentially matches the Core Ultra 7 165U and Core i7-1360P in multi-thread performance and it eats up to 37 W when under short-term workloads.
Core Ultra 9 288V: The fastest Lunar Lake family processor as of Nov 2024. It sports 4 new Skymont E-cores and 4 new Lion Cove P-cores running at up to 3.7 GHz and 5.1 GHz respectively, along with the new Arc 140V iGPU and 32 GB of on-package LPDDR5x-8533 RAM. It should be just a few percentage points faster than the Core Ultra 7 165U and Core i7-1360P in multi-threaded workloads and it eats up to 37 W when under short-term workloads.

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
