IFA 2019 | Acer Predator Triton 500 is the first laptop announced with a 300 Hz display, also shows new Triton 300
The Acer Predator Triton 500 (what a mouthful!) is a seriously powerful gaming laptop, featuring an Intel i7-9750H and up to an Nvidia RTX 2080 Max-Q. It also now has an impressive 300 Hz display that would appeal to hardcore competitive gamers.
The 144 Hz display that it has previously been equipped with provides a smooth flowing experience, but some competitive games are still restricted by this. Popular esports titles, such as CS:GO or League of Legends, are optimized for low graphics load and high FPS to minimize input latency. However, the display’s ability to refresh counteracts efforts made elsewhere. This move to 300 Hz would put the Triton 500 near the top of any budding esport professional’s wishlist.
The new Predator Triton 300 is a less exciting release, with comparatively mid-range specs in comparison and no big standout feature. But that shouldn’t overshadow the fact that it is a well-rounded device, with Intel i7-9750H, 16 GB RAM, Nvidia GTX 1650, up to 1 TB NVMe SSD (plus 2.5” HDD), 144 Hz display with 3 ms response time, and Killer WiFi 6.
The GPU is decidedly entry-level for a gaming laptop, but unlike others that sacrifice the (admittedly less important) other specs to get the price down to install a more powerful GPU, the Triton 300 will likely appeal more to general users who also like to play some games. Alternatively, we can also see the Triton 300 following the same Esports trend as the new Triton 500, since the GTX 1650 is capable of utilizing the high refresh display and low response time in the previously mentioned games.
The Acer Predator Triton 300 is expected to launch in Q4 2019 at €1099 (US$1200), while the Acer Predator Triton 500 is expected to also launch in Q4 but at €2599 (US$2860).
