Reviews for the Acer Predator Helios 500 PH517-51-79BY
Gaming upgrade. Our exclusive review of Acer's massive fella. Equipped with a 45 W CPU and a GTX 1070 the brand-new case contains a true gaming powerhouse. The Helios 500 is the successor to the Helios 300, and while still quite hefty and bulky the new kid on the block is not as sharp-edged anymore.

Smooth performance and cool running make this a worthy top-end gaming laptop, despite limited portability and a few little flaws. Just keep an eye on battery levels.

Acer's Predator Helios 500 squeezes full-fat overclockable GeForce GTX 1070 performance into a 17-inch gaming laptop, but we'd like to see a bit more battery life and chassis polish.

There’s nothing too revolutionary going on here but Acer’s new gaming laptop looks set to be a perfectly capable option at a decent price. Exactly how it stacks up against the competition is something we’ll find out in our full review later in the year.

We'll bring you a full review of the Helios 500 soon, but until then, early signs are promising. It isn't a cheap option, and we still don't know how much the flagship Core i9+ model will cost, but the ingredients are all there for success.

We can't vouch for the performance just yet, but the Predator Helios 500 will pair the latest power parts with an advanced 17.3-inch G-Sync display in 4K or 1080p/144Hz flavors.

But all of these good stuff come at a price: the Helios 500 retails from $1,999, which comes up to about RM7,965. It’s a high price to pay, but the gaming laptop’s feature set may justify it. If you’re eyeing to get the Helios 500, it’s expected to be available here in Malaysia very soon.
