The Acer Nitro 5 Thanos Edition is simply a must-to-be-purchased gaming laptop if we let our hearts decide on it. If the packaging itself made our mouths water, our eyes are teary-eyed when we saw the actual unit itself.

The gaming community well knows the Acer Nitro series as being one of the most affordable gaming laptops that can still sustain heavy burden from modern Triple A (AAA) games. It is one of the most celebrated lineups originating from none other than the Acer brand, which has accrued much reputation and respect from an ever expanding audience across the globe. The Acer Nitro 5 in particular stands out like a sore thumb among the other models within the Nitro series and that does not necessarily meant to be perceived in a negative light. The Acer Nitro 5 stands out with its cool design and it seems to be among the few gaming laptops within the scene that daringly wears the color of red with pride and style. What makes the Acer Nitro 5 so outstandingly attractive as a gaming laptop would be the visual intensity that this particular model can project through its display screen alone. The display screen size of the Acer Nitro 5 varies in accordance to the user’s liking, ranging from an option of 15.6 inch measurement or a broader 17.3 inch measurement. Regardless of these metrics, both options come with a FHD IPS display panel which also supports a smooth, blur-free gameplay experience thanks to a consistent 144 Hz refresh rate for its screen. Apart from that, the screen-to-body ratio of the Acer Nitro 5 is customized to 80 percent accompanied with narrow 7.18 mm bezels. The specifications of the Acer Nitro 5 as a gaming laptop is truly applaudable. This can be examined through the incorporation of powerful core components such as the Intel Core i7-9750H processor unit and the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card. Both of these essential components are superb in their own regard. For instance, the Intel Core i7-9750H processor unit has recorded a base clock of 2.6 GHz. The activation of Turbo Mode using Intel’s very own Turbo Boost Technology can push this base speed up to 4.5 GHz within seconds. Not only that, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti plays an integral role when it comes to the overall performance of the Acer Nitro 5. It utilizes the award-winning Turing ray tracing technology in the rendering process of in-game graphics by applying the principle of natural environmental lights reflecting upon the surface of assets within the game. In layman’s term, this easily translates to the fact that users of the Acer Nitro 5 will be able to experience realistic and immersive graphics thanks to the integration of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1600 Ti GPU within the device. The 17-inch Nitro 5 remains true to its core values: excellent specs and competitive features in an affordable package. This version is more compact and sturdier built than its predecessors, packs updated hardware and a larger battery, as well as an optional 144 Hz screen on the higher-tier variants. The value is especially in the base-level models though, which earned our 4.25 rating, where the Nitro 5 outprices most of the competition, and which the thermal module can actually keep in check both in terms of performance, temperatures, and acoustics. Read on for the complete analysis.

If you're looking for more screen for less money in a gaming laptop, Acer's 17.3-inch Nitro 5 should be in the running. Again, there aren't a lot of sub-$900 models with a big screen and these components, and it was only $780 at the time of this review, too, making it easier to recommend for immersive play on a budget.

Although the Nitro 5 gaming laptops can’t quite compete with Acer’s more powerful Predator 300 notebooks, it clearly offers fierce competition against Dell’s G5 15 Se. Not only is it competitive in terms of performance, but the Acer Nitro 5 discussed in today’s review sells for $879.99, whereas the Dell G5 15 Se typically retails for $1,018.99. The Dell is on sale right now for $919.99, but even after that, it’s an extra $40 for a very similar product. As such, I’d recommend the Acer Nitro 5 over its competition based on the current market conditions and performance.

The ultimate question is whether the Nitro 5 needs a better-performing CPU, even if it would push pricing closer to the $1,000 mark. The answer, at least to me, is no. Even without a Core i7 processor, the Nitro 5 accomplishes its mission of running games like Fortnite smoothly at maximum graphics settings, and it does so on a big screen with slim bezels. Every laptop has compromises, and the Nitro 5 makes the right ones in pursuit of entry-level gaming.

In the field of low-end gaming laptops, Acer’s latest Nitro 5 (model AN517-51-56YW) is about as budget as they come. But for $880, you don’t need more than what the Acer Nitro 5 offers to play Fortnite and Apex Legends at 1080p and 60 frames per second with maximum settings. You can cross the same frame rate and resolution hurdles in lots of other modern games with a few minor graphical tweaks.

The updated Nitro 5 is a solid gaming laptop for casual gamers who want middle-tier performance at an entry-level price. This machine's plastic body is a bit chunky, but the 9th Gen Core i5 processor and Nvidia GTX 1650 GPU more than make up for the chassis. For about $300 more, you can get the Dell G5 15, which offers better battery life, improved performance and a lighter body. But if value is more important to you, grab the Acer Nitro 5 and put the money you save toward a few games.

Yes, the hardware is distinctly mid-range, but even the mid-range performs well in today's laptops. Acer's functional pixel-pusher does more than enough to satisfy for the price, though the 120Hz screen is a mixed bag and it lacks storage by default.

If you really want to have a 17-inch laptop with the RTX 2060 GPU and 16GB RAM without upgrading, then this laptop is worth buying. Especially when you can upgrade the SSD or using an external SSD, this laptop is very affordable and yet it has a monster specification. You won’t be able to find another 17 inch machine with RTX GPU at this price. But if you cannot upgrade and don’t want to use external storage, we recommend getting the alternatives with more SSD storage which we already listed above. All in all, at this price, this 17.3 inches Acer Nitro 5 AN517-51-76V6 is a king of a 17-inch gaming laptop as it features a Ray-Tracing supported GPU, powerful processor, and massive 16GB of RAM out the box.
