Acer Nitro 5 Spin NP515-51-86CX

The Acer Nitro 5 Spin is an ultra-slim, super-light convertible touchscreen laptop. It provides maximum versatility for the casual gamer. Featuring a sleek body with metal chassis, the Nitro 5 Spin uses powerful components and popular features to give user the tools they need to conquer any battlefield. User can just rotate the revolutionary 360° dual-torque hinge and watch this handy machine convert into a laptop, display, tent or tablet. The Acer Nitro 5 Spin features a vivid, 15.6” Full HD IPS display and enough battery life to keep user powered up all day long. The Nitro, has a dark metal look with red gaming highlights. The display cover features an Acer logo with a brushed hairline finish in the center. It is connected to the base by two stable red hinges which is also in aluminum look. The red highlights of the Nitro continue to run like a thread throughout the entire design concept. The Acer Nitro 5 Spin has a footprint of 38.1 x 25.8 cm (~15 x 10.2 inch) and is 1.79 cm (~0.7 inch) high. The Spin's 1,920 x 1,080 touch screen is not too shabby. The glossy 15.6-inch display produces rich hues and sharp enough details. Display size and resolution result in a pixel density of 141 PPI. The Nitro 5 is bright, averaging 296 nits. The touch panel is both fast and accurate too. The Acer FineTip keyboard and the snugly fitted number block have red lettering that is sufficiently easy to read. The entire keyboard is slightly sunk into the base unit, so that the device can be used easily in tablet mode without the user pressing a key by mistake. What is striking about the Nitro's keyboard is not only the red lettering and the red sides of the keys, but also the red WASD keys for gamers, further highlighted by bold lettering. On the right side of the keyboard, users will find a USB 2.0 port, an SD card reader, a headset jack, a secure lock slot and buttons for power and volume. A pair of USB 3.0 ports reside on the left with a USB Type-C port, full-size HDMI and a DC jack. Instead of adding a Gigabit Ethernet port, Acer is using its ExoAmp antenna and 2x2 MU-MIMO wireless tech to ensure that the laptop is able to maintain a stable wireless signal. The hardware configuration of the Nitro 5 Spin with Intel Core i7-8550U gives the Nitro a base clock rate of 1.8 GHz. The Acer Nitro 5 Spin has a main storage device, which is a 256 GB SSD from Micron with an M.2 form factor and a 6-Gbps SATA interface. The Acer Nitro offers very satisfying system performance. It is equipped with a GeForce GTX 1050 from Nvidia. The device can display current games at medium details, and sometimes even at high details thanks to this mid-range GPU. Display upgrade vs. SSD downgrade. On the outside, the Acer Nitro 5 Spin is easily recognizable as the gaming version of the Acer Spin 5. However, trying to find other differences between the two convertibles is more difficult - there do not seem to be any at first glance. Is the Nitro hoping to reach gamer status by its red stripes alone, or does it have more to offer? We have put it to the test.

Not quite a gaming laptop, but not totally a work machine, the Acer Nitro Spin 5 tries its best to be a Jack- of-all-trades. But sometimes your best is not good enough. For $1,099, you get a system that can turn from laptop to tablet, which makes it extremely versatile -- especially when you throw in the optional Active Stylus. And the discrete graphics, comfortable keyboard and surprisingly good audio bolster the Nitro 5 Spin's case.

Acer Aspire Nitro 5 AN517-51-7887

The gaming community well knows the Acer Nitro series as being one of the most affordable gaming laptops that can still sustain heavy burden from modern Triple A (AAA) games. It is one of the most celebrated lineups originating from none other than the Acer brand, which has accrued much reputation and respect from an ever expanding audience across the globe. The Acer Nitro 5 in particular stands out like a sore thumb among the other models within the Nitro series and that does not necessarily meant to be perceived in a negative light. The Acer Nitro 5 stands out with its cool design and it seems to be among the few gaming laptops within the scene that daringly wears the color of red with pride and style. What makes the Acer Nitro 5 so outstandingly attractive as a gaming laptop would be the visual intensity that this particular model can project through its display screen alone. The display screen size of the Acer Nitro 5 varies in accordance to the user’s liking, ranging from an option of 15.6 inch measurement or a broader 17.3 inch measurement. Regardless of these metrics, both options come with a FHD IPS display panel which also supports a smooth, blur-free gameplay experience thanks to a consistent 144 Hz refresh rate for its screen. Apart from that, the screen-to-body ratio of the Acer Nitro 5 is customized to 80 percent accompanied with narrow 7.18 mm bezels. The specifications of the Acer Nitro 5 as a gaming laptop is truly applaudable. This can be examined through the incorporation of powerful core components such as the Intel Core i7-9750H processor unit and the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card. Both of these essential components are superb in their own regard. For instance, the Intel Core i7-9750H processor unit has recorded a base clock of 2.6 GHz. The activation of Turbo Mode using Intel’s very own Turbo Boost Technology can push this base speed up to 4.5 GHz within seconds. Not only that, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti plays an integral role when it comes to the overall performance of the Acer Nitro 5. It utilizes the award-winning Turing ray tracing technology in the rendering process of in-game graphics by applying the principle of natural environmental lights reflecting upon the surface of assets within the game. In layman’s term, this easily translates to the fact that users of the Acer Nitro 5 will be able to experience realistic and immersive graphics thanks to the integration of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1600 Ti GPU within the device. 85% Acer Nitro 5 review (2019 AN517-51 model – i7-9750H, GTX 1660Ti)
Source: Ultrabook Review English
The 17-inch Nitro 5 remains true to its core values: excellent specs and competitive features in an affordable package. This version is more compact and sturdier built than its predecessors, packs updated hardware and a larger battery, as well as an optional 144 Hz screen on the higher-tier variants. The value is especially in the base-level models though, which earned our 4.25 rating, where the Nitro 5 outprices most of the competition, and which the thermal module can actually keep in check both in terms of performance, temperatures, and acoustics. 78% Acer Nitro 5 (17.3-inch) review: Immersive big-screen gaming on a budget
Source: CNet English
If you're looking for more screen for less money in a gaming laptop, Acer's 17.3-inch Nitro 5 should be in the running. Again, there aren't a lot of sub-$900 models with a big screen and these components, and it was only $780 at the time of this review, too, making it easier to recommend for immersive play on a budget.

At a Glance: Acer Nitro 5 (2019) Review
Source: Extreme Tech English
Although the Nitro 5 gaming laptops can’t quite compete with Acer’s more powerful Predator 300 notebooks, it clearly offers fierce competition against Dell’s G5 15 Se. Not only is it competitive in terms of performance, but the Acer Nitro 5 discussed in today’s review sells for $879.99, whereas the Dell G5 15 Se typically retails for $1,018.99. The Dell is on sale right now for $919.99, but even after that, it’s an extra $40 for a very similar product. As such, I’d recommend the Acer Nitro 5 over its competition based on the current market conditions and performance.

80% Acer Nitro 5 (17-inch, AN517-51-56YW) review: Here's your cheap Fortnite laptop
Source: PC World English
The ultimate question is whether the Nitro 5 needs a better-performing CPU, even if it would push pricing closer to the $1,000 mark. The answer, at least to me, is no. Even without a Core i7 processor, the Nitro 5 accomplishes its mission of running games like Fortnite smoothly at maximum graphics settings, and it does so on a big screen with slim bezels. Every laptop has compromises, and the Nitro 5 makes the right ones in pursuit of entry-level gaming.

Acer Nitro 5 (17-inch, AN517-51-56YW) review: Here's your cheap Fortnite laptop
Source: Good Gear Guide English
In the field of low-end gaming laptops, Acer’s latest Nitro 5 (model AN517-51-56YW) is about as budget as they come. But for $880, you don’t need more than what the Acer Nitro 5 offers to play Fortnite and Apex Legends at 1080p and 60 frames per second with maximum settings. You can cross the same frame rate and resolution hurdles in lots of other modern games with a few minor graphical tweaks.

80% Acer Nitro 5 (2019) Review
Source: Laptop Mag English
The updated Nitro 5 is a solid gaming laptop for casual gamers who want middle-tier performance at an entry-level price. This machine's plastic body is a bit chunky, but the 9th Gen Core i5 processor and Nvidia GTX 1650 GPU more than make up for the chassis. For about $300 more, you can get the Dell G5 15, which offers better battery life, improved performance and a lighter body. But if value is more important to you, grab the Acer Nitro 5 and put the money you save toward a few games.

Acer: The company was founded under the name of Multitech in Taiwan in 1976 and renamed to Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors and televisions. Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell also belong to the Group and sell their own laptops.

While Acer still had the third largest global market share in the notebook segment in 2008, it ranked 6th in 2016 with a market share of 6% after they had continuously lost market shares.

There are dozens of Acer laptop reviews per month, the ratings are average (as of 2016). Gateway, which has an own laptop line-up, has also belonged to the Acer Group since 2007.

Intel Kaby Lake Refresh:

i5-8550U: Kaby-Lake-Refresh based low power quad-core processor. The four cores are clocked between 1.8 and 4 GHz (Turbo Boost) and support HyperThreading. The integrated GPU is clocked between 300 and 1,150 MHz. The SoC is manufactured in a 14nm+ FinFET process.

Intel Core i5:

7300HQ: Quad-core notebook processor based on the Kaby Lake architecture running at 2.5 - 3.5 GHz without Hyper Threading (which is supported by the faster i7 CPUs). The chip also integrates the HD Graphics 630 GPU clocked at 350 - 1000 MHz and is manufactured in a 14 nm process (improved compared to Skylake).

i5-8300H: On Coffee Lake architecture based processor for big and heavy laptops. Integrates four processor cores clocked at 2.3 - 4 GHz (3.9 GHz with 4 cores) that support HyperThreading. Manufactured in an improved 14nm process (14nm++).

i5-9300H: On Coffee Lake architecture based processor for big and heavy laptops. Integrates four processor cores clocked at 2.4 - 4.1 GHz (4 GHz with 4 cores) that support HyperThreading. Manufactured in an improved 14nm process (14nm++).

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

i7-9750H: On Coffee Lake architecture based processor for big and heavy laptops. Integrates six processor cores clocked at 2.6 - 4.5 GHz (4 GHz with 6 cores) that support HyperThreading. Manufactured in an improved 14nm process (14nm++).
