The Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 is nicer than the average Chromebook, but it’s also more expensive than the average Chromebook. Still, at $699, it’s still less expensive than many competing Windows laptops. That’s a great package at a compelling price. But many people will be looking for less-expensive Chromebooks. And, for people who are looking for a more premium Chromebook experience, some aspects of this laptop will give them pause — like the speakers. Still, this is a great Chromebook that many people would be happy with. As I wrap up typing this review on the Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714’s excellent keyboard, that sale price of $599 feels like good value for a mostly great Chromebook experience.

We already loved Acer's Chromebook Spin 714 line, granting it not one but two Editors' Choice awards in the past. But the latest Chromebook Plus version genuinely improves several facets of the Chromebook experience, with a combination of cloud-based Gemini-powered features and a surprisingly robust selection of locally run, on-device capabilities that power up the 2-in-1 Chromebook in handy ways. All of this is on top of an elegant design, excellent port selection, and a display that's both a joy to look at and touch. The fact that Google and Acer add 12 months of Google One and Gemini Advanced with your purchase makes the Editors' Choice-award-winning Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 the best Chromebook we've ever seen and the first five-star Chromebook we've reviewed.

The Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 is an impressive AI upgrade to the classic Spin 714. It combines more powerful processor options with the stylish, comfortable design of previous models. It’s ideal for students or professionals who mainly work through web browsing. The built-in AI features are useful and functional, but you’ll still get a smooth user experience even if you choose not to utilize them. The Spin 714 isn’t ideal for gaming — and Acer didn't design it to be. But it can handle casual mobile games or even cloud gaming. So, you have options if you want to do some light gaming on the side. If you’re looking for something less limited, look at our guide to the best gaming laptops for some top alternatives.

Some users don’t need the complexity and wide compatibility of Windows 11 and macOS, but a simple tablet like an iPad or an Android tablet won’t suffice. That’s where Chromebooks come in, and the Chromebook Plus Spin 714 is a solid addition. It’s fast enough and has good enough battery life, with a display that’s not spectacular but is good enough for most uses. At its $699 price is low enough that it’s a good budget option. It’s an easy convertible 2-in-1 to recommend.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
Intel Graphics 4-Core: Integrated graphics card based on the Xe LPG architecture (similar to the dedicated Arc GPUs, but with a focus on efficiency). Provides 4 Xe cores (64 Xe vector engines) and 4 ray tracing units.

Intel Meteor Lake-U:
Ultra 5 125U: A lower mid-range Meteor Lake chip that debuted in December 2023. This 1st Gen Core Ultra processor has come to replace 13th generation Core processors; it has 12 cores (2 + 8 + 2) and 14 threads at its disposal. Its Performance cores, of which there are 2, run at up to 4.3 GHz while its Efficient cores, of which there are 10 (8 main cores plus 2 extra ones found in the Low Power Island) run at up to 3.6 GHz. The 4-core Intel Arc Graphics, just out of the oven, serves as the integrated graphics adapter - this runs at up to 1.85 GHz - and there is a bevy of other brand-new technologies on offer as well including the integrated AI Boost NPU with two Gen 3 engines for hardware AI workload acceleration. This laptop processor's Base power consumption is 15 W, with 57 W being its maximum Intel-recommended Turbo power consumption.
Ultra 5 115U: A lower-end Meteor Lake chip that debuted some time in 2024. This 1st Gen Core Ultra processor has 8 cores (2 + 4 + 2) and 10 threads at its disposal. Due to its slightly lower clock speeds and a lower number of E-cores, the 115U should be 10% to 15% slower than the 125U in multi-threaded tasks. The 4-core Arc Graphics, in the meantime, should be just a little slower than the aging 96 EU Iris Xe GPU.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
