For the price, the Acer Chromebook 314 CB314-2H is a fine Chromebook. It’s usable, and while not exactly speedy, it’s fast enough for simple, everyday tasks. Yet, we still keep coming back to that underwhelming screen and feel that it would have been a much better option with a bit more oomph. If budgets are tight and you just need something workable for college or surfing the web, reading emails, and watching videos, there’s enough to like about this 314. Beyond that, there’s not enough here for this Chromebook to stand out.

Up to a point, the Chromebook 314 does a pretty good job of convincing you that you’re using a mid-range £400 Chromebook, even though you’ve spent £100 less. However, neither the touchpad nor the keyboard get the feel quite right, while the performance keeps reminding you that this is still a low-end laptop. If you’re only interested in browsing and using Google’s Workspace apps, you’ll probably get by, but for anything else you’re going to wish you had splashed out a little more on something faster. Even then, we’d recommend the cheaper non-touchscreen option. It has less storage but it’s arguably better value.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
73%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
