The new Acer Aspire One D260 is a smarter, better-looking netbook than the Acer Aspire One 532h. It offers excellent battery life and comes with standard netbook hardware and performance, and sells for an attractively low price.

While the Aspire One D260 doesn't bring anything new to the table where specifications are concerned, its visual flair and soft-touch ergonomics lend it an edge, honed further by a price that easily undercuts rivals.

If you're in the market for a netbook, you're probably looking for a system that's cheap, good looking, and able to run for a whole working day. Acer's Aspire One D260 almost fits the bill. At £250, it's cheaper than many of its direct rivals but you wouldn't know it when looking at the machine; its modern style and trendy patterns don't reflect the price tag.

The Aspire One line of Netbooks has long been a bright spot in Acer's laptop lineup, thanks to the company's firm commitment to rock-bottom prices and decent, if unexciting, design and construction. Acer's Aspire D260 is slim and lightweight, even for a Netbook, but its slightly faster processor doesn't lead to better performance.

At a price of Rs. 17,999 (MOP) or 19,999 (MRP) the Aspire One D260 feels overpriced. In terms of performance, there’s nothing that this netbook does which the Toshiba NB520 cannot do better. Agreed that 3G compatibility is a neat feature, but for now 3G in India is not at its full-fledged best. Although a dongle for 3G is not very convenient to use, you can still go for the ASUS 1015PEM or the Toshiba NB520 which have USB ports for 3G connectivity through a dongle.

With so little to differentiate most netbooks currently on sale, it takes a unique feature or two to really stand out. The fantastic battery life and great usability of the Aspire One D260 are what raise this machine above its similarly specified rivals. A really terrific netbook at a great price.

Netbooks are low-cost, small computers that are ideal for carrying around. But it’s increasingly hard to stand out against the competition as most models have the same specifications and looks. The Acer Aspire One D260 is Acer’s update for its earlier D250 model, which we liked. It looks good, with a well-crafted finish. A good-looking netbook with impressive battery life, but a couple of annoying flaws

This is another small Netbook. Here with Windows 7 Starter edition and Office 2010 Starter. So although everything is ‘basic’ it does mean that you are still using the program and tools that almost any modern business does. The Acer Aspire One D260 measures 25.5x18x2.5cm and weights only 1200grams. The visible screen is 22x12.5cm giving the diagonal 10.1inch measurement.

The Acer Aspire AOD260 costs Rs. 18,000 + taxes. That is quite a fair price, as Netbooks with configurations like this one cost around Rs. 15,000, plus a Tata Photon+ dongle would cost you about Rs. 2,000. The AOD260 is a pretty decent buy if you're looking for a typical Netbook that'll save you the trouble of carrying a USB 3G dongle every time. Another way of looking at it is this - a built-in 3G modem means you cannot enable any other PC with its wireless broadband internet (unless you make this netbook behave like a Wi-fi router using apps like Connectify). But then keep your expectations very modest with this one, as the combination of 1GB RAM, single-core Atom processor and Windows 7 Starter cannot take too much load. Its identical cousin without the 3G powers, the Gateway LT23, costs Rs. 22,700 + taxes. Although the 2GB RAM and 320GB hard drive sounds like a bargain, we think it's somewhat a sore one when you compare it to the HP Mini 210, which has all of that, plus a faster 1.86 GHz Intel Atom processor, not to mention a much better designed keyboard. Only if you don't mind its slightly heavy body weight.

I never thought I would get to appreciate an Acer mini laptop, but the Aspire One D260 really proved me Acer netbooks evolved a lot in these last years. In fact, with products like these, there’s no wonder they are the best selling brand in this segment.

The Acer Aspire One D260-1270 manages to provide the full netbook experience, plus larger storage and longer battery life, and does it all for an aggressively low price. Though it's easily topped by the consistently better scores of the Editors' Choice HP Pavilion dm1z, the D260-1270 shows that even with several sub-$400 netbooks on the market, even small differences can make a system stand out.

Just a couple of years ago, netbooks were the darlings of the mobile-tech world. Saturation in the netbook market, however, has led to many variations on the same device, sometimes with little to set one apart from the models that came before. The AOD260 is a well-balanced dual-core netbook with a touch more pep than most and a striking LED screen..

These days, netbook makers have to offer something special in order to justify a price above $300. Between the 2GB of RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium, and a decent keyboard and touchpad combo, the Acer Aspire One D260 does just that. Still, we give a slight edge to the Samsung NF310, which, for the same price, has a more distinctive design, a higher-resolution display, and better audio. Still, the D260 is also stylish, and it offers a larger hard drive and strong overall performance. For $358, this netbook is worth opening your wallet a bit wider.

Acer: In 1976, the company was founded in Taiwan under the name Multitech and was renamed Acer or Acer Group in 1987. The product range includes, for example, laptops, tablets, smartphones, desktops, monitors, TVs and computer peripherals. Since 2007, the group has merged with Gateway Inc. and Packard Bell, which also market their own laptop product lines.
Acer computers are designed for a variety of purposes, including ultrabooks for mobile use, gaming laptops for gamers, affordable options for everyday tasks, and 2-in-1 convertible laptops for versatility. Acer's product portfolio also includes tablets that offer portable computing and multimedia capabilities.
These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3150: Integrated (shared memory) graphics card in the intel Atom N4xx CPUs. Minimally faster than an old GMA 950 and therefore not suited for 3D games or HD videos (only MPEG2 acceleration).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 900: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 is an integrated (onboard) graphic chip with shared memory on Mobile Intel 915GM chipset. It is the predecessor of Graphics Media Accelerator 950. The performance can be compared with the Mobile Radeon 9000 (with a 64 bit memory bus).
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 is an integrated (onboard) graphic chip on Mobile Intel 945GM chipset. It is a faster clocked version of the GMA 900 and supports no hardware T&L (Transform & Lightning) accelleration (which is required for some games).

Intel Atom: The Intel Atom series is a 64-Bit (not every model supports 64bit) microprocessor for cheap and small notebooks (so called netbooks), MIDs, or UMPCs. The speciality of the new architecture is the "in order" execution (instead of the usual and faster "out of order" execution). Therefore, the transistor count of the Atom series is much lower and, thus, cheaper to produce. Furthermore, the power consumption is very low. The performance per Megahertz is therfore worse than the old Pentium 3M (1,2 GHz on par with a 1.6 GHz Atom).
N450:
Intel Atom CPU for Netbooks with integrated memory controller and GMA 3150 GPU. The performance of the system should be only minimally faster than the previous Atom N280 / GMA 950 combination.
Z540: Power saving Atom processor (even more power efficient than the N-series) with 1.83 GHz and therefore a bit faster than usually 1.6 GHz clocked Atoms.
N550: Dual core Atom with a TDP of only 8.5 Watt. Because of the slow clock speed of 1.5 GHz it may be sometimes even slower than a N465 Atom CPU.

69.94%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
