ASRock Z890 Taichi reveals RAM speed gap: Arrow Lake K-series hits 9066 MHz, non-K capped at 7200 MHz
Uniko’s Hardware has made an interesting discovery about the RAM support on ASRock's Z890 Taichi motherboard, specifically when paired with Intel’s upcoming Core Ultra 200S (Arrow Lake) chips. It turns out that there's a noticeable difference in the memory speeds that different versions of the Arrow Lake CPUs can handle.
According to the report, the Z890 Taichi motherboard shows something a bit odd: the Arrow Lake K-series processors can push RAM speeds up to 9066 MHz, but if you’ve got a non-K variant, you're capped at 7200 MHz.
Higher RAM speeds don’t usually result in massive performance boosts. They mostly make a slight difference in things like minimum FPS or one percent lows during gaming, and they won’t change much for regular desktop tasks or video editing.
One place where faster RAM might be useful is for improving integrated GPU (iGPU) performance. So, if you plan to use the iGPU on Arrow Lake, a high-speed RAM kit could give you an edge. Still, until we see full reviews of the Arrow Lake processors, it’s hard to say how their integrated graphics will hold up for gaming.
While some folks may not love this RAM speed difference, it’s probably not a deal-breaker for most people. Pairing a non-K Arrow Lake CPU with a Z890 motherboard is pretty uncommon anyway, since Z-series boards are usually picked for their overclocking abilities and are typically paired with K-series chips.
