Gaming PC with 24-core Core Ultra 9 285K 'Arrow Lake-S' CPU leaks out
Intel's upcoming Arrow Lake-S lineup of desktop CPUs is set to hit the scene in the coming weeks. The highest-end variant in the lineup, the 24-core, 24-thread Core Ultra 9 285K, is poised to bring substantial single-threaded performance improvements to the table, if the recently leaked PassMark scores are anything to go by.
In a recently leaked product page for HP's Omen 35L pre-built gaming tower, the company has revealed that it will be available with the aforementioned Core Ultra 9 285K Arrow Lake-S CPU with a boost clock of 5.7 GHz, paired with up to 64 GB of DDR5 RAM. The memory speed has been listed at an unusually slow 4000 MT/s, which is most likely a typo. Regarding graphics, HP won't be pulling any punches either, offering configurations topped off with Nvidia's heavyweight champion, the RTX 4090.
Intel's Arrow Lake-S lineup will do away with hyperthreading support, the effect of which can be clearly witnessed in some early benchmarks. Single-threaded performance, however, will experience a major uplift, also indicated by recent benchmarks. Whether or not the projected performance gains will be enough for the beleaguered chip titan to regain its crow in gaming value, remains to be seen.
For a company that's been fending off AMD's advances and Apple's custom silicon onslaught, the stakes couldn't be higher. Intel's latest Lunar Lake mobile platform was well-received by reviewers, and the Arrow-Lake-S desktop chips undoubtedly have a lot riding on them to win back gamers and creators alike.
