The AOC Q27G40XMN is a new and pretty well-equipped gaming monitor with a comparatively affordable price tag. It promises a high contrast ratio but relies on a mini-LED backlight instead of an OLED panel.
AOC has introduced a new gaming monitor called the Q27G40XMN. This screen offers fast response times, a high refresh rate and decent contrast ratio. AOC hasn’t opted for an OLED panel, but rather a mini-LED backlight with 1,152 dimming zones. The Q27G40XMN supports HDR and can supposedly hit a peak brightness of 1,200 nits.
According to the manufacturer, the sRGB color space is fully covered with a color deviation of DeltaE<2. This should result in fairly accurate colors, although this is clearly not a monitor for professional content creators. Furthermore, the new AOC monitor utilizes a VA panel with a refresh rate of 180Hz and a gray-to-gray response time of 1 millisecond. G-Sync is supported and can prevent tearing, while the resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels is typical for mid-range gaming monitors and requires less GPU power for reasonable frame rates, at least compared to 4K displays.
Most importantly, the 1440p mini-LED gaming monitor measures 27 inches, but gamers will have to live without advanced features like a USB hub. The AOC Q27G40XMN is now available for $299 at Best Buy, which makes it a relatively budget-friendly option.

I have been active as a journalist for over 10 years, most of it in the field of technology. I worked for Tom’s Hardware and ComputerBase, among others, and have been working for Notebookcheck since 2017. My current focus is particularly on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi – so in other words, compact systems with a lot of potential. In addition, I have a soft spot for all kinds of wearables, especially smartwatches. My main profession is as a laboratory engineer, which is why neither scientific contexts nor the interpretation of complex measurements are foreign to me.

My fascination for technology goes back a long way to the Pentium II era. Modding, overclocking and treasuring computer hardware has since become an integral part of my life. As a student, I further developed a keen interest in mobile technologies that can make the stressful college life so much easier. After I fell in love with the creation of digital content while working in a marketing position, I now scour the web to bring you the most exciting topics in the world of tech. Outside the office, I’m particularly passionate about motorsports and mountain biking.
