The AMD Ryzen 9000 series was set to launch on July 31, but the company recently announced that the first processors of the lineup will hit the market on August 8 instead. There hasn't been a proper explanation for why the launch was delayed, but now, different reports are hinting that it's due to mislabeling the CPUs.

AMD has pushed the launch of the launch of Ryzen 9000 series desktop processors from July 31 to August 8. In the official announcement, the company said that it's because the initial CPUs that were shipped "did not meet" the "full quality expectations."

This was seen as a rather vague statement, and those who were waiting for the new desktop Zen 5 CPUs wanted to know the exact reason from AMD. While the company hasn't said anything after the announcement about the delay, several reports are pointing out that it's because of mislabels on the processors.

A picture of one of the first CPUs that were shipped shows AMD Ryzen 9 9700X printed on the IHS, but this processor wasn't announced. It is said to be the Ryzen 7 9700X that got mislabeled. This isn't the only instance, as Tom's Hardware reports that the Ryzen 5 9600X was also mismarked as a Ryzen 9 chipset.

There's a chance that these two weren't the only CPUs that got mislabeled, as AMD has delayed the launch of the entire lineup. The good part is that the mismarkings won't be a complicated fix as these labels are laser engraved. However, given that there are already reports about two CPU models, all the processors may need to go through the whole QC process.
