AMD is now bringing the benefits of the new Zen2 processors into the entry-level class, which means that PCI Express 4.0 and also the small 7 nm manufacturing process is now being introduced into the new AMD Ryzen 3 3000 series. Combined with the also new B550 chipset, inexpensive yet powerful PC systems can be put together.
The AMD Ryzen 3 3100 offers a total of 4 cores with a base clock speed of 3.6 GHz. Internally, however, these are distributed over two CCX clusters, of which only 2 cores are always active at a time. The AMD Ryzen 3 3300X looks a bit different. Only one complete CCX cluster is active here, which conversely means that the Ryzen 3 3300X also offers 4 native cores. Both processors also offer SMT (Simultaneous Multithreading). This was sometimes not the case.
The AMD Ryzen 3 3100 starts at 109 Euros (~$119) including taxes, and AMD only asks for 20 Euros (~$22) more for the somewhat faster Ryzen 3 processor. The Wraith Stealth CPU cooler is included with both entry level models.

First benchmarks with the new Ryzen 3 CPUs
In terms of pure computing power, there is a clear advantage for the IPC, which benefits from Zen2. Compared to the Ryzen 5 1600, the single-core performance has been considerably improved. But also in terms of multi-core performance, the new Ryzen 3 processors are close on the heels of the now somewhat older Ryzen 5 1600, even though the latter offers 6 cores and 12 threads.
In our detailed review of the two new Ryzen 3 CPUs, we will also occupy ourselves with the direct comparison to the competition from Intel. AMD itself compares the Ryzen 3 3100 against the Intel Core i3-9100 and the Ryzen 3 3300X against the Intel Core i5-9400. We want to simulate exactly this comparison and take a closer look at how AMD's statements are to be evaluated. The popular AMD Ryzen 5 1600 (12 nm) will also be present. The AMD Ryzen 5 1600 listed here for comparison is still based on the older 14 nm manufacturing process.

Short verdict on the AMD Ryzen 3 3100 and 3300X
AMD has complemented its portfolio, and the new Ryzen 3 processors also offer the advantages of the Zen2 platform now. Those who can also call a new motherboard with the X570 or the brand new B550 chipset their own on can take full advantage of PCI Express 4.0 too. The manufacturer charges $99 (~91 Euros) and $120 (~110 Euros) before tax, respectively. But how the processors will establish themselves on the market remains to be seen. In our detailed review we delve into this point again and evaluate if the price is justified compared to the competition or if AMD has pushed its luck too much.
AMD does a lot of things right and finally offers 4 cores including SMT in the entry level too.
Purely performance-wise it can already be said that AMD delivers a decent performance with both processors. After all, only 4 native cores are at work here, and that's something to keep in mind.
