Micro Center is now offering the 12C/24T AMD Ryzen 9 3900X processor at a highly discounted price of US$390. The offer is only valid for in-store purchases or pickups and is limited to one quantity per household. At this price, the Ryzen 9 3900X offers excellent value and great multi-core performance when compared to Intel's newly launched Core i7-10700K and the Core i9-10900K.

Intel's new 10th gen Comet Lake-S Core i9-10900K processor is now available, and benchmarks so far have shown the CPU to have excellent gaming and overclocking performance. However, the AMD Ryzen 9 3900X with two additional cores over the Core i9-10900K still has the edge when it comes to multi-core performance. While AMD did offer sizeable discounts for the Ryzen 9 3900X earlier, the processor can now be had for an all-time low price of just US$389.99 from Micro Center.

The 12C/24T Ryzen 9 3900X was initially priced at US$499 at launch. Back in March this year, AMD reduced the price to US$449 and since then, the processor has had regular discounts sometimes going as low as US$399 at one point. Now, Micro Center is offering the 3900X for US$389.99 with an additional US$20 overall discount when bundled with an eligible motherboard. However, this offer only applies to those who purchase the processor in-store, or make an online purchase with in-store pickup. The quantity is also limited to just one per household. 

If you don't live in proximity to a Micro Center store, all is not lost as Amazon is also selling the Ryzen 9 3900X for a reasonably discounted price of US$410. 

These discounts are likely time-limited, but they still can potentially dent Intel's prospects. The 8C/16T Core i7-10700K is priced around the US$387 mark while the 10C/20T Core i9-10900K retails for US$488. If you consider the Core i9-10900KF or the Core i7-10700KF that lack an iGPU, you can save an additional US$20. With the new discounted price, the Ryzen 9 3900X undercuts both Intel processors while also giving you extra cores and a highly capable air cooling solution in-box. 

AMD's MCM chiplet design seems to have given enough cost-cutting headroom and we may see such discounts continue for an extended amount of time particularly with the higher SKUs such as the Ryzen 9 3900X and the Ryzen 9 3950X.
