A fan has decided to breathe new life into Medal of Honor game 23 years after its release, with the help of the Unreal Engine 5.

Today, when we talk about first- or third-person shooters, everyone thinks directly of Call of Duty or Battlefield, franchises that have left their mark on millions of gamers, such as the famous Battlefield 3. But some gamers will also think of Fortnite, Apex Legends or Marvel Rivals. However, in the early 2000s, a license revolutionized the gaming world, and 23 years later, a fan decided to give it a new lease of life with the help of Unreal Engine 5.

By now, some of you will know which game it is, and it's Medal of Honor, whose first opus was released in 1999 on PlayStation, dealing with the Second World War. But while the franchise hasn't been in the news since 2010, that may be about to change.

Indeed, while fans eagerly await its return to the video game market, one avid gamer decided to take matters into his own hands. Named Jos van Laar, he had fun reproducing the “Scuttling the U-529” mission from Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, using Unreal Engine 5.

In this iconic mission, Lieutenant Powell must infiltrate a German Kriegsmarine base in Trondheim, Norway. With the help of Commandant Grillo and the Norwegian resistance, the objective is to destroy the NAXOS, a German weapon that could undermine the Allied victory. But also to steal secret documents and sabotage U-529. And as the many comments below the video testify, fans of the license are won over by this project, and they're not hesitating to make it known, like this user who says: “It's incredible... This is one of the very first missions I've created in my entire career. I'm so happy and honored that a fan made a remake of this quality with this".

This is yet another feat for Unreal Engine 5, which continues to bring back to life games that have cradled millions of gamers over the years, as in the case of the highly successful The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. And there's no doubt that other projects will see the light of day in the weeks to come, enabling players to relive unique moments.
