Sniper Elite 4 puts players in the role of a World War II sniper, combining open mission areas with stealth and comparatively realistic ballistics. On Steam, the title is 90% off until September 17 and available for $5.99.

In Sniper Elite 4, players take on the role of elite OSS sniper Karl Fairburne. Set in Italy in 1943, he joins the resistance and attempts to prevent the deployment of a new guided missile that could threaten the planned Allied invasion. The nine campaign missions take players through locations including Sicilian coastal towns, forests, mountainous regions, villages, monasteries and heavily fortified military installations.

In terms of gameplay, Sniper Elite 4 is a third-person shooter with open mission areas that allow for different approaches depending on how players choose to tackle their objectives. Enemies can be quietly eliminated in close combat, taken out with explosive traps or gunned down with submachine guns. The most important weapons, however, are arguably the sniper rifles: Especially on higher difficulty levels, players need to account for factors such as distance, wind and bullet drop before pulling the trigger. Precise shots are often accompanied by the series' signature X-ray kill cam, which shows the impact in sometimes rather gruesome slow motion.

Sniper Elite 4 also has plenty to offer when it comes to multiplayer. Those who don't want to sneak through the levels alone can play through the campaign with a second player. There are also dedicated co-op modes for up to four players as well as competitive multiplayer battles for up to twelve players.

German gaming magazine PC Games reviewed Sniper Elite 4 when it launched in February 2017 and came away largely impressed. The expansive missions, strong sniping gameplay and varied locations were particularly well received. Criticism, on the other hand, was directed at the rather weak enemy AI, the clichéd and shallow story and the occasionally excessively brutal kill cams. Ultimately, the publication awarded the game 8 out of 10.

The verdict from the Steam community is even more positive: 91% of more than 63,000 player reviews are positive. Metacritic lists the shooter with a Metascore of 77 and a User Score of 7.1.

90% off on Steam

On Steam, Sniper Elite 4 is 90% off until September 17, bringing the price down to $5.99 from $60. The deal isn't entirely new, however: According to SteamDB, the game was last available at this price in mid-June – although it has never been cheaper. On the Steam Deck, Sniper Elite 4 is rated as “Verified.”
