The new Xencelabs Pen Display 24+ upgrades the familiar drawing tablet with "Calman-ready color calibration". In practice, this means that a C6 HDR5000 or a compatible colorimeter and Calman Professional software can be used to calibrate the display. The color profiles are then saved directly on the Pen Display 24+, so the calibration remains active even when the device is connected to a different computer.
At the heart of the Pen Display 24+ is a 23.8-inch panel with 4K resolution. It can display 99% of the Adobe RGB color space and 93% of the DCI-P3 color space. The panel also has a refresh rate of 60Hz, but the manufacturer does not provide any details in terms of brightness. That said, the display has a matte surface that supposedly feels like paper and provides a natural drawing experience. The manufacturer includes two different pens whose pressure curve is customizable.
These pens have 8,192 pressure levels, and can be tilted up to 60 degrees. Meanwhile, the included remote control has an OLED display that labels the programmable buttons, and a dial is also available for adjusting brush sizes. The included stand can be adjusted in angle and can also hold the screen in portrait mode. The Pen Display 24+ is compatible with Windows, Linux, and macOS.
Price and availability
The Xencelabs Pen Display 24+ is now available for $1,899 at the manufacturer's online store. This is the same list price as its predecessor, which is still available on Amazon.
