DLSS 4 and its improved AI upscaling are the main advantages of the RTX 50 series. With the latest 3DMark update, gamers can now easily test how the technology impacts frame rates. Some DLSS 4 features apply to older generations, so the new GPU benchmark is compatible with older Nvidia cards.

Most buyers are struggling to find an Nvidia RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 in stock. For those fortunate few who score a new graphics card, 3DMark can now confirm whether the aggravation was worth it. UL Benchmarks just announced that its popular GPU testing software supports Nvidia DLSS 4. While its upgraded multi-frame generation is exclusive to the RTX 50 series, DLSS 4 also has benefits for older Nvidia cards.

3DMark is a popular way for gamers to evaluate their gaming rigs and compare scores to users with similar hardware. UL Benchmarks worked in tandem with Nvidia to develop an updated Port Royal test. Running two passes, the latest benchmark first runs the test without any DLSS features enabled. Then, DLSS is activated, processing graphics at lower resolutions before using AI to upscale visuals to higher resolutions. The software generates a detailed report with results, including framerates.

DLSS 4's multi-frame generation is largely responsible for the promised RTX 50 series performance gains. Without games supporting Nvidia's technology, RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 owners may find that their pricey GPUs aren't a significant upgrade. Still, many enhanced DLSS 4 features work on the RTX 30 and RTX 40 series, including Ray Reconstruction for improved Ray Tracing and Super Resolution. With the new 3D Mark Port Royal test, gamers can choose to enable DLSS 4, DLSS 3, or DLSS 2, depending on the GPU in question.

To discover the full potential of DLSS 4, 3DMark testers can toggle between 2x, 3x, and 4x frame generation settings. The GPU benchmark is also future-proof, running at resolutions from Full HD up to 8K.

Gamers are able to try a free 3DMark demo, but a paid version is necessary for the most comprehensive benchmarks. Anyone who purchased the software on or after January 8th, 2019, can access the DLSS 4 update.
