2020's Samsung Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A70 could get cameras with optical image stabilization, but the iPhone SE 2 already delivers it
Citing a report from South Korean sources, SamMobile claims that this years' Galaxy A series phones-including the Samsung Galaxy A50 and Galaxy A70-could feature optical image stabilization for the first time. OIS is a camera technique that prevents camera images from blurring due to shaking or movement.
The lack of OIS in the 2019 Galaxy A70 was a major drawback, considering the otherwise decent camera.
If the report is true, it means that Samsung might be breaking new ground in the Android space by delivering OIS tech at a midrange price-point.
Currently, you'll have to consider the likes of the OnePlus 7, Nokia 8.1, and Motorola One Vision to get an OIS camera without breaking the bank.
However, Apple's iPhone SE offers this feature at a reasonable US$399 price-point. Considering the price premium on almost all Apple hardware, it's interesting to see the 2020 iPhone SE actually deliver more for less.
Compromises like the 4.7 in screen and small battery might make midrange buyers opt for a Galaxy A series smartphone, nevertheless.
