In a recent interview, Microsoft executive Aaron Greenberg stated that the company is building the “world’s most powerful console”. The Xbox chief himself, Phil Spencer, has also talked about Xbox Project Scarlett’s power and how it will be carefully priced to be competitive. It seems Microsoft is ready to start stealing some limelight from Sony and the PS5.

There has been a lot of news and rumors about the PS5 over the last few months, whereas Microsoft’s Xbox Project Scarlett has remained in the wings, allowing Sony’s next-gen console to hog all the headlines. But it seems that could start to change as two of the Xbox brand’s chiefs have come out to sing the console’s praises, especially in terms of power and price.

Aaron Greenberg, who is Xbox Games Marketing General Manager, was talking to Kotaku about the potential threat of the PS5. The executive was quite relaxed about the issue, pointing out that Microsoft was more concerned about pleasing customers than worrying about the competition. He also claimed “that we’ve built the world’s most powerful console” – and it will be fascinating how that statement manifests into factual details. Both the PS5 and Xbox Project Scarlett will be powered with similar AMD parts, so how will the Xbox outperform the PS5?

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has also been talking about Project Scarlett, which will not be the final name for the next-gen console, and he made it clear that he does not want the PS5 to win the clash of the consoles in Holiday 2020. He told The Verge “we will not be out of position on power or price”, while no doubt reminiscing about how that happened with the PS4 and Xbox One (some estimates see the Sony console having sold twice as many units as the Microsoft device).

Microsoft and Xbox Project Scarlett have finally started to come out fighting, although Sony and the PS5 currently seem to be the Goliath in this particular clash. Perhaps, Microsoft has some secret technology to show off with the future Xbox console to prove the “world’s most powerful” statement? 4K and 120 fps gaming might not be sufficient, though, and Nintendo might still have something to say about the whole next-gen console business.
