XMG / Schenker is refreshing the Focus lineup with a 17.3-inch gaming laptop that is fairly unusual for 2025. After a two-year hiatus, the Focus series is back with a solid sub-€2000 combining cost-effective components with the latest technologies.
Detailed specs
The first aspect that stands out as unusual for this model is the processor options. XMG decided not to go with the latest Arrow Lake chips and instead provides the Core i9-13900HX plus its refresh Core i9-14900HX processors in order to keep costs in the upper-mid-range zone. Both Raptor Lake era CPUs continue to deliver excellent gaming performance while currently offering better value over the Core Ultra 9 275HX.
As far as GPU performance goes, the Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti mobile featured on the Focus 17 currently offers the best price-performance ratio among all RTX 5000 models. Its 12 GB of GDDR7 RAM, as well as the 140 W maximum TGP help achieve frame rates closer to the maximum refresh rate of the display via DLSS4 and MFG.
Another peculiar choice for this year’s Focus laptops is the 17.3-inch form factor. “Large-format laptops with a 16:9 display have become rare in 2025 – particularly those featuring GPUs from the RTX 50 series. However, our decision to introduce the XMG Focus 17 (M25) with a 17.3-inch screen followed a lengthy phase during the RTX 50 launch, in which a surprising number of customers repeatedly requested exactly this form factor,” explains Robert Schenker, CEO of Schenker Technologies.
Speaking of the 17.3-inch 16:9 screen, XMG includes a quality IPS panel with 2,560 x 1,440 pixels, 240 Hz refresh rate and a typical brightness of 300 nits. It covers 100% of both the sRGB and extended DCI-P3 colour space and integrates a MUX switch, plus an FHD webcam with physical privacy shutter.
On the storage side we find two M.2 SSD slots with PCIe 4.0 X4 speeds, while the RAM capacity can go up to 96 GB DDR5-5200 or 64 GB DDR5-5600 via two SO-DIMM slots. XMG provides thermal pads for the SSDs and RAM modules.
Port selection packs an HDMI 2.1 full bandwidth video out, GbE jack, USB-C 3.2 Gen with DP2.1 (DP 80) and power connector on the back, while the sides feature a USB-A 3.2 Gen2, USB-A 3.2 Gen1, 2-in-1 audio jack, and a USB-C 3.2 Gen2 with DP2.1 (DP 80) and PD 100 W. Wireless connectivity is provided with a Wi-Fi 6E or optional Wi-Fi 7 card.
Since the new Focus 17 comes with a 17.3-inch form-factor measuring 397 x 265.1 x 24.9 mm, there are no design shortcomings on the keyboard side. It features a full numeric keypad, full-size arrow keys, Fn lock function and multi-colour customisable backlighting. The touchpad measures 150 x 90 mm and comes with a glass-like mylar surface. Chassis maximum profile height is 28.6 mm and the unit weighs 2.79 kg including the 73 Wh battery.
Pricing
The base configuration of the XMG Focus 17 (M25) is equipped with an Intel Core i9-13900HX, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, 16 (2x 8) GB DDR5-5600 RAM, and a 500 GB SSD. Starting price for this configuration is €1,849, including 19% VAT. An upgrade to Intel's Core i9-14900HX is available for €100. While the Core i9-14900HX version will remain available in the long term, XMG is making the duration of availability of the cheaper Core i9-13900HX model dependent on demand.
