The Wave X5L are new and completely wireless earbuds advertised with a wide range of features. Like some other headphones, they come with a display, but it's quite large in this case. Specifically, they sport 1.7-inch displays with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels.
The touchscreen not only allows users to control the volume, but also view notification, create timers, use a stopwatch and even check the weather forecast. Another feature is the ability to control playback of music or other files stored on the internal storage.
Specifically, the TWS earbuds’ 4GB storage should provide ample space for a decent number of songs and even podcasts. Wave’s new wireless headphones also offer an AI translator, which could be useful on vacation or in certain professional settings. This real-time translation feature supposedly supports various languages, including English, Spanish, German, Japanese and Thai, among others.
Even more importantly, these are open-back earbuds, which means that they don’t passively reduce ambient noise. That being said, noise filtering is available during phone calls and should improve voice quality for the caller on the other side. Meanwhile, the X5L earbuds have a continuous battery life of six hours, but the included charging case can extend that runtime to up to 24 hours in total, according to Wave.
These TWS earbuds are now crowdfunding on Kickstarter, and one pair can be reserved for a pledge of roughly $80. This is not a regular purchase or preorder, so the usual financial risks of crowdfunding campaigns apply. Other traditional ANC earbuds in this price range include Anker's Soundcore Liberty 4, which can be found from $89 on Amazon.
