Honor has announced that it will launch its first-gen foldable smartphone, the Magic V, soon. Now, the company's CEO, George Zhao, has hinted at a more exact launch date for the device in a new interview. The executive also highlighted the device's similarity to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 toward the end of the new clip.

Honor's CEO, known as George Zhao or Zhao Ming, closed 2021 by giving an interview to the Chinese media outlet Phoenix Network. The main subject of this video was the upcoming Magic V - a unit of which just happened to be open on the table in front of the executive the entire time.

This casual, official, hands-on leak for the impending "foldable flagship" seems to confirm a form-factor most like that of Samsung's own top-end Galaxy Z Fold3. Zhao also demonstrated an ability to fold the unit easily, albeit in a way that managed to leave most of its camera hump and cover screen more or less obscured for now.

Despite this new evidence of functionality, this apparent prototype may have been a dummy unit, as its main screen remained dark (thus making any sign of a crease difficult to assess) for the duration of this clip. Nevertheless, Honor's CEO did drop strong hints that the new foldable is ready for launch, and might be available "to all" before the end of January 2022.
