TCL releases new Samsung Galaxy A15 5G rival with 120 Hz display large battery for $159.99
TCL has started selling the 50 XL 5G, the only 50 series smartphone it released so far in North America. To recap, TCL unveiled the 50 XL 5G in February during MWC 2024 alongside six other smartphones, including two NXTPAPER variants. While the company claimed that the TCL 50 XL 5G would be available for 'under $169', it did not provide specific pricing.
Metro by T-Mobile in North America has now opened orders for $159.99 before applying any new customer deals. For reference, the TCL 50 XL 5G measures 167.6 x 75.5 x 8.22 mm and weighs 195 g. Only sold in Slate Grey with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of expandable storage, the handset also finds itself with a MediaTek Dimensity 6100 Plus chipset that we have tested in the Oukitel WP33 Pro 5G, as well as Samsung's Galaxy A15 5G (curr. $199.99 on Amazon) and Galaxy XCover7 smartphones.
Moreover, the TCL 50 XL 5G features 50 MP primary, 2 MP ultra-wide-angle, 2 MP depth and 8 MP front-facing cameras. Separately, the device comes with Android 14 pre-installed. As far as we can see, TCL has not confirmed how many major updates it will receive. At any rate, TCL installs a 6.78-inch IPS display too, which outputs at 1080p (2,460 x 1,080) with a 20:9 aspect ratio, a 2.5D finish and a 120 Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, a 5,010 mAh battery rounds out proceedings with 18 W wired charging supported. Please see TCL's website for more information.
