MementoMori: AFKRPG, as the name suggests, is an idle RPG where battles play out automatically. Still, players can shape the outcome by building teams, managing gear and upgrading their characters. The game tells the story of young women branded as witches and hunted for their powers. After a catastrophic event, a group of them embarks on a journey to uncover the truth and lift the curse haunting their land.
In a review on the YouTube channel Pseychie, the idle RPG is even described as a “music gallery with a game.” That’s because MementoMori’s standout feature is its soundtrack – each character has a fully produced song, some in Japanese, others in English, that highlights their personality and backstory. Visually, the game also stands out with its distinctive watercolor art style.
Predominantly positive reviews
MementoMori was developed by Bank of Innovation, Inc. and released on Steam on March 24. However, it’s not a brand-new title. The game originally launched in October 2022 for Android and iOS. On the Google Play Store, the idle RPG has been downloaded over 1 million times and holds a strong average rating of 4.6 out of 5 from more than 80,000 reviews. In the Apple App Store, it has a rating of 4.7 based on around 4,600 user reviews. While the Steam version has only received 54 ratings so far, 85% of them are positive. That was still enough to push MementoMori to the top of Steam’s “Trending Free” chart.
Free to play
As an autobattler, MementoMori: AFKRPG is especially appealing to players who enjoy strategic planning and prefer a more relaxed, hands-off gaming experience. If you're unsure whether this style suits you, there's no real risk – MementoMori is completely free to play on Steam.
