With this game discount, gamers can decide for themselves whether they’d rather buy on Steam or in the Epic Games Store. With 90% off, Sid Meier’s Civilization VI might be worth a look even for those who aren’t hardcore strategy fans.

Sid Meier’s Civilization VI, developed by Firaxis Games and released by 2K in 2016, is the sixth main entry in the long-running strategy series. Players choose a historical nation, like the Roman Empire, the Kingdom of Nubia or Imperial China and guide their civilization through thousands of years of history. No matter which nation you pick, the journey always begins in the Stone Age, specifically in the year 4000 BC.

At the start, players are given just one settler unit and a warrior for basic defense. The map is mostly hidden by the fog of war, so the first task is to scout the surroundings and find a good spot to establish the capital. Once the city is founded, the slow but steady march through history begins. Players research early technologies like animal husbandry, pottery and mining, gradually unlocking new buildings, units and upgrades. As the game progresses, you shape your path through war, diplomacy, science, culture or religion. The ultimate goal: global dominance – whether by force, innovation, influence, faith or alliances.

New in Civ VI is the “District” system, which lets cities expand across multiple tiles for the first time. Each district focuses on a specific area – like science, military, religion or culture – and is built as a separate part of the city on its own tile. This makes city placement more important than in previous games and adds a new layer of strategy. Research and culture have also been reworked: certain actions and terrain features can speed up progress, bringing more variety and momentum to the gameplay.

Reviews: Lots of strategic depth but room for improvement in AI

In its review, the German magazine GameStar praised Civilization VI for its impressive scope and strategic depth, with the new district system receiving particular acclaim. However, the review also pointed out several weaknesses, especially the AI, which often acts erratically in combat or when defending cities. The game’s clarity suffers in large-scale matches, as crowded maps with many units can quickly become confusing. Some quality-of-life features are missing too, like a production queue or the option to rename cities. For newcomers, the complexity of the mechanics may feel overwhelming at first.

Despite some criticisms, Civilization VI earned a strong score of 87 out of 100 from GameStar. Reviews on major platforms are equally solid. On Steam, over 250,000 players have shared their thoughts, with 86% rating the game positively. On Metacritic, it holds a Metascore of 88 and a User Score of 7.1.

90% discount on Steam and Epic

On Steam, the regular price for Civilization VI is $60. Right now, though, there's a massive 90% discount running until April 7, bringing the price down to just $6. The same deal is also available on the Epic Games Store, where it runs until April 9. It's worth noting that Civ VI has a wide range of expansions and DLCs – so if you’re aiming for the full experience, be prepared to spend a bit more.
