SmartSens SC580XS debuts as company’s first 50 MP 1/1.28-inch image sensor
After successfully mass-producing its first 50 MP 1/1.56-inch image sensor, SamrtSens has announced the launch of SC580XS. It’s a direct successor to the SC550XS, which utilized a 22 nm HKMG stack process. The new camera sensor is based on the same process, but it’s 1/1.28-inch in size and brings many upgrades over the predecessor.
Among them is SmartSens PixGain HDR, which aims to improve the dynamic range and effectively reduce motion artifacts. The SmartSens SC580XS also brings multiple high dynamic range modes, including PixGain HDR+VS and triple exposure HDR.
This new 50 MP image sensor has a pixel size of 2.44 µm, which allows the SC580XS to bring 4K 120 FPS video recording mode. With AllPix ADAF and Sparse PDAF technologies, SmartSens says the camera sensor focuses better in different lighting conditions.
Besides, the SmartSens SC580XS utilizes partial pixel phase-detection for more accurate focusing. The company says this process significantly reduces the power consumption of the camera sensor.
SmartSens has also presented a sample taken by the image sensor, which showcases the SC580XS’s capability to capture low noise, high dynamic range shots at night. The picture is attached below for you to check out.
