Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra: Leak fans flames of a 200 MP camera on Samsung's next flagship

Last week, reports surfaced indicating Samsung's development of a new 200 MP camera. While nothing is confirmed, word on the grapevine now also claims that the sensor could make its way into the Galaxy S23 Ultra.

According to leaker Ice Universe, the new 200 MP sensor is "expected to be installed in the Galaxy S23 Ultra scheduled for release next year". That's not a lot to go by as it sounds like speculation but it's fuel on the fire—and shows there are legs to rumors of a 200 MP camera on the Galaxy S23 Ultra. To be exact, this 200 MP sensor isn't the same ISOCELL HP1 expected to debut on the Motorola "Frontier 22" soon; instead it's branded as the ISOCELL HP3.

Samsung brought 108 MP cameras to the market with the ISOCELL HMX that debuted on the Mi Note 10 in 2019. Since then, the company has equipped the S20 Ultra, Note 20 Ultra, S21 Ultra, and the new S22 Ultra with 108 MP cameras. The upcoming Galaxy Z Fold4 is expected to adopt the S22 Ultra's 108 MP shooter as well. After using 108 MP cameras—albeit slightly different models—on three different Ultra phones, it makes sense that Samsung would want to go a step higher. A 200 MP camera with a 1/1.22-inch sensor size and 16-in-1 binning fits the bill rather nicely.
