Rumor | Samsung's upcoming ISOCELL HP3 is a 200 MP sensor that could appear on the Galaxy S23 Ultra

Samsung launched the first-ever 200 MP CMOS camera last year. While the ISOCELL HP1 received some media attention mostly due to its ridiculous resolution, it's yet to be implemented on any commercially available smartphone. For some reason, however, Samsung appears to be working on a successor already. 

As revealed by GalaxyClub, Samsung already has a new 200 MP CMOS sensor in development. This sensor is said to be branded as the ISOCELL HP3 and will represent the next entry in an incredibly sparse lineup of 200 MP sensors currently only populated by the aforementioned HP1 and OmniVision's OVB0B. Details of the new HP3 are unknown but it can be expected to match the HP1's 1/1.22-inch sensor size and 2.56µm after 16-in-1 pixel binning. 

While those specs look impressive, it's unknown if the HP3 will ever make its way to a Galaxy flagship phone. The HP1 was ignored in favor of the ISOCELL GN3 on the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+, and currently only looks destined for Motorola's upcoming Edge 30 Ultra flagship phone. According to some reports, these 200 MP sensors are only intended to be sold to third-party OEMs and not for Samsung's own phones. On the flip side, rumors have also claimed that the Galaxy S23 Ultra could be equipped with such a sensor. Time will tell.
