OnePlus teases new affordable flagship phone with non-Elite Snapdragon 8 Gen 5

OnePlus will soon launch the OnePlus 15, which will compete against other flagship phones that will come with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, a new flagship SoC from Qualcomm. However, this isn't the only mobile SoC that the company has announced during the Qualcomm Summit 2025.

The non-Elite Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 was also announced, and OnePlus has just teased a phone that will feature it. As Qualcomm detailed during the Chinese Summit, the non-Elite version sits below the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, but it comes with Oryon cores.

Qualcomm also shared that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will feature Oryon Prime cores that are clocked at 3.8 GHz and Performance cores with a 3.32 GHz clock speed. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, in comparison, has the Prime cores clocked at 4.6 GHz and the Performance cores at 3.62 GHz.

Other details like the core configuration and GPU of the non-Elite version are still under wraps, but recent leaks have suggested that it will sport the Adreno 835 GPU. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, on the other hand, comes with the Adreno 840, while the regular 8 Elite features the Adreno 830.

So far, Qualcomm has confirmed that the non-Elite Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will power upcoming smartphones from Vivo, iQOO, Motorola, Meizu, and OnePlus. However, it seems that OnePlus will be the first to offer a flagship-grade phone that packs the non-Elite SoC.

Interestingly, Li Jie Louis, OnePlus's President, confirmed that this OnePlus phone with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 will launch globally. This suggests that the smartphone in question might end up being the OnePlus 15R for the global market (256 GB 13R curr. $549.99 on Amazon), which will stand as a more affordable flagship phone than the OnePlus 15.
