North Edge Mars Pro: Hybrid watch with extensive sensor technology also suitable for swimming
Cheap and well equipped: The North Edge Mars Pro is a new watch made of carbon and equipped with many sensors. A thermometer and compass are also installed, as well as a sensor for measuring air pressure.
North Edge is offering a new watch, the Mars Pro, at a relatively low price. Specifically, the watch can be ordered via AliExpress at the current price of just under USD 50. Import fees are likely already included in the price. Shipping normally takes place within 12 days and therefore quite quickly for a direct import.
The watch virtually stands in the grey area between a classic digital watch and a smartwatch. It cannot connect to a smartphone, but is equipped with extensive sensor technology. For example, the watch is equipped with a barometer that can measure air pressure and therefore also altitude - changes in the weather can also be registered through rapidly changing air pressure. A compass and a thermometer are also available. An integrated calendar allows the date and day of the week to be displayed for each day. Typical watch functions are also available, such as alarms and a stopwatch.
According to the manufacturer, the watch is made of carbon, which is said to be particularly stable and resistant to chemicals. Oil stains, for example, are unlikely to cause permanent damage. Water resistance is stated to be up to a depth of 50 meters. However, at a weight of 74 grams, the watch is not particularly light.

I have been active as a journalist for over 10 years, most of it in the field of technology. I worked for Tom’s Hardware and ComputerBase, among others, and have been working for Notebookcheck since 2017. My current focus is particularly on mini PCs and single-board computers such as the Raspberry Pi – so in other words, compact systems with a lot of potential. In addition, I have a soft spot for all kinds of wearables, especially smartwatches. My main profession is as a laboratory engineer, which is why neither scientific contexts nor the interpretation of complex measurements are foreign to me.

Growing up in regional Australia, I first became acquainted with computers in my early teens after a broken leg from a football (soccer) match temporarily condemned me to a predominately indoor lifestyle. Soon afterwards I was building my own systems. Now I live in Germany, having moved here in 2014, where I study philosophy and anthropology. I am particularly fascinated by how computer technology has fundamentally and dramatically reshaped human culture, and how it continues to do so.
