Motorola has presented the Edge 2022, a smartphone equipped with a 144 Hz OLED display. Also on board is a 50 MP triple camera, the new MediaTek Dimensity 1050, and up to 8 GB of RAM with 256 GB of storage. The Motorola Edge 2022 is available at a price befitting its mid-range status too.

Motorola has introduced the Edge 2022, a smartphone that looks a lot like the Edge 30 Pro. While the pair lookalike at first glance, there are numerous hardware differences between the Edge 2022 and Edge 30 Pro, not least the omission of a flagship chipset. Specifically, Motorola has swapped the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 for the MediaTek Dimensity 1050, a new chipset that contains two ARM Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.5 GHz, six Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2.0 GHz, plus a Mali-G610 MC3 GPU.

Additionally, the Edge 2022 will be available with 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM, plus 128 GB or 256 GB of flash storage. Incidentally, Motorola equips the Edge 2022 with a 5,000 mAh battery, a 200 mAh higher capacity than the Edge 30 Pro. However, while the Edge 30 Pro supports up to 68 W wired charging, the Edge 2022 peaks at 30 W. Still, the Edge 2022 matches the Edge 30 Pro with 15 W wireless charging capabilities. Conversely, the Edge 2022 offers 5 W reverse charging, compared to the 15 W that the Edge 30 Pro manages.

Moreover, the Edge 2022 has a 6.6-inch OLED display operating at 1080p and 144 Hz with a 20:9 aspect ratio. Motorola adds that the display has a 91.32% screen-to-body ratio, supports HDR10+ and peaks at 1,300 nits, too. For reference, the display can be switched to 60 Hz mode if you need to preserve battery life. Predictably, Motorola equips the Edge 2022 with a 50 MP primary camera, a 13 MP ultra-wide, a 2 MP depth camera and a 32 MP front-facing sensor.

Similarly, the Edge 2022 arrives with Android 12, rather than the newer Android 13. It remains to be seen when the device will receive Android 13, either. Regardless, Motorola will begin selling the Edge 2022 in the US 'within the next few weeks'. Starting at US$499, the Edge 2022 also massively undercuts the Edge 30 Pro, which Motorola currently sells for US$749.99. Unfortunately, it is unclear whether Motorola plans to release the Edge 2022 in other markets, such as Europe and India.
