Meta is rumored to be working on more smart glasses for release this year. The company announced the first generation Ray-Ban Stories in 2020 and launched the follow-up Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses (Wayfarer curr. $329 at Amazon) in 2023.
A recent report from Mark Gurman for Bloomberg has shed light on Meta’s plans to expand its range of smart glasses. Under the Supernova project, the company is expected to bring its wearables to more markets. Meta is also said to be developing new smart glasses with sports eyewear brand Oakley. Like Ray-Ban, Oakley is owned by Luxottica. Named Supernova 2, this wearable is designed for outdoor athletes, including cyclists, and builds on Oakley’s Sphaera glasses.
On top of this, Meta is allegedly working on premium smart glasses codenamed Hypernova. This product was rumored last year and is thought to be closer to the existing Ray-Ban model. However, this upcoming version would feature an integrated display, which could allow you to view notifications and photos taken using the integrated camera. The report indicates that these would be priced at over $1,000. Meta’s Reality Labs is also said to be working on other wearables, including watches and earbuds equipped with a camera, which will offer the Meta AI assistant.
