Back in October, Manjaro 24.1 "Xahea" arrived with multiple package updates. Now, version 24.2 "Yonada" of this Arch-based distro hailing from Austria, Germany, and France is here. Its most important change is the introduction of the LTS kernel with version number 6.12. Thanks to it, Manjaro now sports a rich set of new features, including real-time execution, the latest security patches, and stability updates.
The highlights of the three Manjaro editions for the consumer market include the following:
- GNOME 47.2 with multiple improvements to Files search, better remote desktop capabilities, hardware encoding on Intel and AMD GPUs, and more.
- KDE Plasma 6.2, Frameworks 6.8, and KDE Gear 24.08, sporting an overhauled interface, improved power management, and Wayland color management protocol support.
- Xfce 4.18 with a new file highlighting feature in Thunar, which also gets recursive search.
All editions come with the kernel version mentioned earlier, but older hardware is also supported with the 6.6 and 6.1 kernels, if needed. The list of updated apps includes LibreOffice 24.8.3, Thunderbird 128.4.4, VLC 3.0.21, Firefox 133.0, and more.
