MSI Claw BIOS update and new Intel GPU driver promise up to 43.5% performance boost
MSI Claw launched as the first Intel Meteor Lake gaming handheld. While it initially stood as a worthy challenger to the Asus ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go, later benchmarks have proved that Intel isn’t fully ready to enter the handheld gaming market yet.
However, MSI is now promising a decent performance improvement with the new BIOS update, paired with the Intel Arc GPU driver 31.0.101.5382. To be specific, they are said to make the Claw deliver up to 43.5% performance FPS boost on F1 2023. But it’s not just one game that will supposedly run better on the handheld gaming PC with the new BIOS and graphics driver.
MSI says that gamers can expect up to a 27.6% boost in Hogwarts Legacy, 22.6% in Diablo IV, 21.9% in Dead Space, 18.4% in Forza Horizon 5, and 10.3% in Helldivers 2. These are some decent numbers and could definitely close the gap between the MSI Claw and other popular gaming handhelds, such as the ROG Ally (AMD Ryzen Z1 variant curr. $399.99 on Best Buy).
Of course, these numbers are coming from MSI, and they should be taken with a pinch of salt. But now that the BIOS update and the updated Intel graphics drivers are rolling out, we should see new benchmark comparisons surface soon. One thing to note about the new MSI Claw BIOS update is that it no longer requires you to use an external USB drive. So, the process is now simplified.
As for updating the graphics driver of the gaming handheld, you have to use the MSI Center M. As shared by MSI, you need to head over to Settings and to Live Update. You can find more information about the BIOS and GPU driver updates on MSI’s official forum post at this link.
