Lenovo has upgraded the Legion 7i gaming laptop to offer Intel Tiger Lake-H CPU and NVIDIA RTX 30 Ampere Laptop GPU options. This year's Legion 7i is being pegged as the world's first 16-inch QHD gaming laptop with a 165 Hz 16:10 NVIDIA G-SYNC display. The Legion 7i also comes with a Corsair RGB keyboard and the Legion AI Engine to dynamically shift power between the CPU and the GPU.

Last year's Lenovo Legion 7i was more of a regular 15.6-inch 1080p gaming laptop powered by the Intel 10th gen Comet Lake-H CPUs and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 series GPUs. This time, Lenovo has given the Legion 7i (7i 16ITH-6) quite a bit of a makeover along with the transition to Intel 11th gen Tiger Lake-H processors and NVIDIA Ampere RTX 30 Laptop GPU options.

Lenovo claims that the Legion 7i is the world's first 16-inch WQXGA (2,560 x 1,600) gaming laptop. The 16:10 display offers an impressive 165 Hz refresh rate with a 3 ms response time. According to Lenovo, the Legion 7i's display can offer up to 500 nits brightness, can cover 100% of the sRGB color gamut, and is VESA DisplayHDR 400-certified along with support for Dolby Vision and NVIDIA G-SYNC. The Legion 7i's display is also TUV-certified for eye protection from blue light emissions.

Lenovo offers a choice between the Intel Core i7-11980HK and the Core i7-11800H in the Legion 7i. Buyers can choose between the RTX 3060 (130 W), RTX 3070 (140 W), and RTX 3080 (165 W) Laptop GPUs. These GPUs also offer Max-Q functions such as Advanced Optimus, Resizable BAR, and Dynamic Boost 2.0. RAM options between 16 GB and 32 GB DDR4-3200 are available. The Legion 7i also allows for a range of PCIe SSD storage options up to 2 TB or a combination of 1 TB + 32 GB Intel Optane H10.

Lenovo has equipped the Legion 7i with a decent port selection including 2x Thunderbolt 4 ports among others. The Legion 7i features a Corsair iCUE RGB keyboard with Legion TrueStrike, which Lenovo says offers faster millisecond inputs than two generations ago. The company also claims an 18% gen-on-gen airflow improvement owing to Legion Coldfront 3.0 thermals.

The Legion 7i also boasts of the Legion AI Engine that helps in dynamically shifting power between the CPU and GPU depending on the workload. According to Lenovo a total of 170 W of TDP is available for sharing between the CPU and GPU. The AI Engine comes custom-tuned for several popular titles.

Other features include an E-shutter for the 720p webcam, Killer Wi-Fi AX1650 2x2 Wi-F6 6 networking with Bluetooth 5.1, Pantone X-Rite Color Management System, and Nahimic Audio.

The Legion 7i will be available only in the Storm Grey color option and will start at US$1,769.99 with expected availability from June 2021.
