Geekom Mini IT12 with Intel Core i5-12450H reviewed

Teaser
As the successor to the Mini IT11, Geekom has equipped the Mini IT12 with new processors. We recently examined the model featuring the Intel Core i7-1260P and were quite impressed. Subsequently, we received another variant powered by the Intel Core i5-12450H, which we also subjected to our testing regimen. Nevertheless, not all of the positive impressions could be confirmed.

The Intel Core i5-12450H, which has eight native computing units, is the new CPU that Geekom has added to the present Mini IT12. The Alder Lake SoC, built on P and E cores, delivers adequate performance for everyday use. Performance-wise, the Intel Core i5-12450H proves to be comparable to the Intel Core i7-1260P. Paired with 16 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD, the mini PC is well-equipped, and every purchase includes a Windows 11 license in the Professional Edition.

Visually, Geekom has retained the same design, maintaining the known pros and cons. There's little to complain about, as the design has proven itself with its extremely compact build and outstanding stability. The compact mini PC can accommodate up to three mass storage devices. Noteworthy is its excellent connectivity, featuring two USB 4 interfaces with Thunderbolt support, ensuring future-proofing. In our tests, we observed a significant increase in 3D performance when using an external GPU dock. Paired with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, this small computing powerhouse can even function as a gaming system.

The everyday performance of the Geekom Mini IT12 is commendable, with no significant lapses compared to its rivals. Our test sample encountered issues with DPC latencies, which were notably high. Nevertheless, the Mini PC demonstrated relatively few problems in the playback of high-resolution videos. The primary point of criticism, however, lies in its volume. In this aspect, the Geekom Mini IT12 with the Intel Core i5-12450H couldn't match the outstanding performance of the Mini IT12 with the Intel Core i7-1260P; it was, in comparison, notably louder.
