The Garmin Descent G2 is a smartwatch that can be better described as a diving computer. As the name suggests, the smartwatch is primarily targeted at diving enthusiasts, providing a plethora of useful information right on their wrists. The smartwatch has been rated for dives to a depth of 100 meters, with its battery lasting for up to 27 hours in diving mode.
At the top, a spacious 1.2 inch AMOLED display is provided with touch support. In terms of the diving-specific features, the Garmin Descent G2 packs plenty, including an in-dive compass, multiple dive modes including single- and multi-gas, a big numbers mode with enlarged essential data such as the NDL time, variometer, as well as velocity charts on the Garmin Dive app. A dive readiness feature provides a rating based on sleep, stress, exercise, and the multi-GNSS support allows for accurate surface entry and exit point tracking.
Of course, the smartwatch boasts several health and smart features as well. The usual heart rate tracking, sleep tracking, hydration and respiration, movement tracking, and women's health tracking capabilities are all present. The smartwatch can pair with both iOS and Android devices, and deliver emails, alerts, as well as detailed fitness stats with the Garmin Connect app. For emergency situations, the Garmin Descent G2 can also pair with the inReach Mini 2 for satellite SOS.
The Garmin Descent G2 is available in two colorways: paloma with a shell pink band, and black with a black band. Priced at $700 in the US, the "watch-style" dive computer is already available and ready to ship in one to three days.
