Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, SpaceX and a potential future politician, has consistently shared his enthusiasm for gaming. Recently, it was revealed that he plays Diablo 4 at an impressively high level. In the demanding endgame dungeon "The Pit of Artificers", Musk completed the highest difficulty level in a record-breaking 1 minute and 52 seconds, surpassing the previous top score on the ranking site Helltides by seven seconds. On X (formerly Twitter), Musk commented on his success in almost philosophical terms:
It’s important to acknowledge that certain factors may have contributed to Musk’s record-breaking performance. He was playing the new "Spiritborn" class, which was introduced in the "Vessel of Hatred" addon. The latest patch 2.0.5 gave Spiritborns considerable damage buffs, especially for poison damage, making them particularly strong at the moment. Critics also suspect that Musk may have exploited existing bugs. A known exploit disproportionately converts high health points into damage, which enables enormous damage values. This speculation is based on the fact that Musk deactivated the damage display in the run in question.
It’s worth noting that most existing records on Helltides were achieved prior to the release of patch 2.0.5. Musk’s achievements have yet to be officially listed on Helltides, raising questions about how accurately the current rankings reflect his performance. Reactions on Twitter remain mixed, with opinions varying widely. While some respect Musk's performance and wonder how he finds time for Diablo 4 despite his numerous projects, others accuse him of using bugs creatively. On Reddit, his success is viewed with a mixture of respect, humor and skepticism.
